the fact that i dreamt i cheated and attacted the haribo in the fridge i think that says it all!

as anyone got any advice on how to get these shakes down? ive blended, used the coldest of water, even tried a orange hot chocolate this morning?

At the moment i dont particulary feel great, feel weak and have a sickly feeling! :(

so determined i want this to work for me!

any help and motivation would be great :)

Hi Carly,

I really feel for you! When I first started a chose a few varieties of things although I'm generally quite fussy and the first 2 days I managed to have all three shakes but it wasn't easy! When I got to day 3 I was feeling really nauseous and I only had one and the same on day four. The thought of the shakes and soups turned my stomach! I told my CDC and she advised me that not having at least 3 packs a day would be detrimental to my weight loss as I believe it will put your body into starvation mode. I went to see her the following day and I gave everything back and tried the tetras instead. Now I'm into my 4th week and finding it sooo much easier! All I have are the chocolate tetras either hot or cold (although you're not supposed to heat them). I thought they had a nicer taste and texture compared to that of the packs. So you could maybe try those?

I hope you find the right thing for you, I'm so pleased with how things have gone for me so far, it really does work and it keeps you motivated seeing such good losses each week.

Good luck, keep me updated on how you're doing :) x

Hi Carly, I have tried CD once before and was really sick eating the porridge and soups, so this time just shakes and bars for me. Things I have found that helped:
using a blender (anything else doesn't mix it properly), 4 ice cubes and 350ml of water (otherwise too thick and unpleasant) and drinking water before and alongside. Hope some of these help for you and you can stick with it.

Heidi :)

Hi Carly528,

Sorry your feeling like this, when I first started I used to just make them up and take them like medicine, I would hold my nose until it was all gone and have a pint of water straight afterwards to get the teaste away, I looked at it like fuel as you really need to have all 3, and all of them to get into the correct fat burning stage yet still have all your vits and minerals to be able to function properly, if you don't do this you won't stop feeling awful! There is light at the end of the tunnel thoug, I was shocked to find that I started liking some flavours, I do stick to the mostly the same but I enjoy them now, I used to hate chocolate now its my fave!

Try and get your 3 down you today and perserve uyou'll be suprised how your tastebuds change.

I have my warm like you, and have a bar also, if this helps, hope you find a way forward.

Lotsa Love Le xx

its really great to see how everyones doing on here. makes me more determined then ever!

im doing ss+ does this mean im not allowed any bars? its just simply shakes?

another problem is that im going to find it hard to have a shake at work, so a bar would be alot more convienant?

thankyou heidi am going to try the ice and more water, perhaps easier to down!
if we can do awful shots at the weekend i can do this!!

thinking of it like fuel is a good idea for deffo. atm tho i think petrol would taste nicer!!

positive thinking makes me continue and perhaps i do need to see my consultant and see if theres anything better to suite me,

do i continue on hopeing to have a good week and loose a few pounds or give in to maybe a easier option where i continue with it?

Hi hun you are allowed the bars but not normally until week two.i think it actually depends on ure cdc.the malt toffee bars are like a fudge i love them.ss plud means u should be havin a small meal and or milk allowance?? X

P.s u can buy readymade cartons too which would be ideal for work hun.i live on fruits of forest.chik n mush soup and the malt toffee bars x

As Fran said, not supposed to have bar until 2nd week, but agreed with my CDC that if it helped then that was better than going of rails. So, I have 3 shakes throughout day and a bar at 9pm as a 'treat'! If work is your main difficulty then you could use bar then. But as Fran said on SS+ then you could have small meal instead of bar if that helps more?

Heidi :)

sorry all so confusing at the moment im just on ss (hope this makes sense)
i never realised how much food actually makes you go, i feel like totally breaking down and just crying, particullary hard day at work, and that chocolate bar at lunch would cheer me right up, but hopefully monday the 29th next time i see my consultant and this will give me the motivation to carry on!
may consider asking about the bars if i get to the point where ifeel i now longer carry on!

last nite was bad enough, bf cooking steak and onions (my fave) so to escape walked in the rain!

Aw bless you!! The bars will save you i promise hun i have mine before bed and dip it in my tea.so ure on ss so ure on three products a day? Try and stick with it tom should be abit easier hun xx

The bar situation definitely depends on your CDC. Because I'm quite fussy mine allowed me to have the crunch bars in my first week just not the chewy ones. I went for cranberry and mint choc. They weren't bad but I personally couldn't get on with them. I am tempted to try the others though.

Keep going - Once you're into your second week everything gets so much easier. :) x

RECIPE IDEAS FOR THE CAMBRIDGE FOOD PACKS

CHOCOLATE MUFFIN

1. Put a little BOILING WATER into a ramekin dish or microwavable mug (about 2 desert spoons to begin with you can add more later if needed).
2. Add the chocolate pack & mix to a thick paste. Put into the microwave on high for just under a minute if it looks a little bit soggy in the middle, put it back in for about 10 seconds or so. Then enjoy.

This can be made with other flavour foodpacks as well.

A slightly different version of the muffin can be made by saving some of your bars, add it to the mix & it tastes like a brownie. Or when making chocolate muffins add a couple of teaspoons of the summer berry powder or water flavourings to make a sweeter muffin.

LATTE

Make up the vanilla pack as a hot shake; add a teaspoon of coffee & some tablet sweeteners to taste.

ICE CREAM

Put 11 ice cubes in a powerful liquidiser & crush the ice, add a sweet food pack add a small amount of water, about 2 tbsp & liquidise for about 5 minutes. You may need to stir in between; youll end up with a nice bowl of ice cream.

CHICKEN STUFFING

Mix as you would do for a chocolate muffin, but use a packet of chicken soup instead. Cook in microwave for about 1 and a half mins, depending on how dry you like it.

CHOCOLATE BAR

Mix chocolate pack with a bit of water until you have a thick paste, then spread onto some tin foil and freeze for an hour or more.

Mars bar - as for chocolate bar, but with half of vanilla and half of the chocolate. Milky bar - as for chocolate bar, but make just with vanilla gorgeous. Caramac - as for chocolate bar, but make just with the caramel.

Black FOREST GATEAUX MIX

10 ice cubes, chocolate pack, 8oz water & 1.5tsp of fruits of the forest flavouring. Blitz in a smoothie maker or try your blender.

CHEESECAKE SMOOTHIE

Vanilla pack, 10 ice cubes, 8oz water, 1tsp of the CD orange flavouring & blitz in a smoothie maker or try your blender.

CHOCOLATE COOKIE

Take sparkling water & mix with a chocolate pack& then add a pinch of salt, about 2 tbsp water, increase if needed to make thick paste. Put onto a small plate, rounded into a biscuit shape. Bake in the microwave for about 2.5 minutes.

ICE LOLLIES

Make up the CD summer berry or orange a bit stronger than youd normally make, as your taste dictates put into lolly moulds and freeze.

CHICKEN CRISPS OR CHILLI CRISPS

This recipe is even better if you use a Teflon mat, its a bit like a sheet of greaseproof paper but you can wipe it clean. Mix a packet of soup with about 2 tbs of water until you get a thick paste, spread the mixture on the mat or greaseproof paper in a circle, microwave for about 2 mins. It will go crispy, then you can break up into smaller crisp size pieces.

AFTER EIGHT CHOCOLATE TREAT

Add strong cold peppermint tea to chocolate mix, I prefer this as a thick paste like a mousse, but you could have it as a hot chocolate mint drink or cold. Yummy

CHOCOLATE FUDGE

1 packet of chocolate 1/4 cup of hot water 2 or more sweeteners canderel 1tsp of coffee (if you like) mix well it should look like a thick chocolate soup. Microwave it for 2 mins. It comes out as a thick gooey mess, which tastes like fudge!

CHOCOLATE PUDDING WITH CHOCOLATE SAUCE

Microwave most of the choc pack like a muffin but keep some aside and mix into a thick paste whilst the muffin is cooking. Take muffin out and smear with thick choc goo and eat. It really does taste nice and cools the muffin down. This could be done with vanilla icing too

CHOCOLATE CUSTARD

Dissolve a sweetener in approx 70mls of hot water. Add a chocolate pack, microwave for approx 40 secs. Makes a lovely hot chocolate custard. A whole pack of this was a bit sickly for me though, so next time I used half the quantities and had it on top of a muffin.

POPPADUMS

Mix a soup pack with a very small amount of water (about 5 dessert spoons), into a smooth paste, spread on a plate or greaseproof paper and microwave for about 3 mins. Let it settle, when golden take out let it cool then peel off and enjoy. Be careful to not overcook as this makes them taste slightly bitter.

BISCUITS

Cut up a bar into 8-10 pieces. Arrange on a plate 3 or 4 at a time to give them space to expand. Microwave for about thirty seconds or until they stop bubbling. Be careful as they may start burning from the inside out. Use a knife under the biscuits to prise off the plate. Or use baking paper - not greaseproof!

BLACK FOREST COOKIE

Add 1 chocolate pack to sparkling water (3 tbs give or take) add fruits of the forest flavour (half teaspoon) put in the microwave for one minute (let it settle) and you have the fluffiest cookie ever.

there as to be something on here i like.............

anyone tried tese ideas?

all safe to have? not going to knock me out of ketetis??

Hi Carly, thanks for adding these. Just checking with my CDC re the recipes that need cooking/freezing as I didn't think we could do that re nutrients? But, thanks for giving us more choice.

oh please dont say were not allowed was actually really looking forward to trying the muffin!
the gaggin/sick sensation was removed while reading these and actually satrted dribbling!!

I don't think we're "supposed" to cook or freeze the packs as I'm sure Cambridge say that this can kill some of the nutrients. Although I know many people do it. I don't think it'll have an effect on ketosis but it's just you won't be getting the same number of nutrients. Check with your CDC though. I'm tempted to try some of those! :) x

surely if the calorie content is still the same it wont matter??

i feel really disheartned and dissapointed in myself that in day im already looking for alternatives then the shakes!

would it be possible then to make some of these ideas and take them with you to work? meaning the product is not consumed within 15 mins??

It won't affect the calorie content but the reason you have to have 3 packs a day is to make sure your body gets all the vitamins and minerals that it needs to get by each day. I've been told that if the packs are cooked or heated too much they can lose some of those nutrients so officially it isn't something to be done. Saying that, I sometimes heat my chocolate tetras in the microwave although I'm not supposed to :)

Don't worry, I felt exactly the same the first few days, it's a massive change and your body is not used to what is happening. Believe me, it does get a lot easier and as others have said your tastes will start to change and you will enjoy what you've got. Just stick with it. Coming on here I find helps no end. Have you looked at the inspirational photos? Amazing :) xx

Oh my, I could have written this thread! I'm on day 2 of SS.

Yesterday I had maple & pecan porridge (vile), cookies & cream shake (bearable) and oriental chilli soup (couldn't finish it!). Was feeling really down as I'd spent £60 on sachets and I couldn't imagine keeping going if the packs made me gag.

This morning I had a chocolate shake with ice which was quite nice and lunchtime I had a toffee and walnut which wasn't so nice but wasn't awful either.

I'm seeing my CDC on Monday to swap my porridges and soups for shakes as they're the only things I seem to be able to bear.

I hope I can keep it up. I only want to lose 1.5 stone so I know this isn't forever!

I hated the porridge and just couldn't get them down! So I now have strawberry shake every morning which is lovely. I alternate between chilli soup and the chicken n mushroom but have to admit am getting a bit fed up with those so will see what other flavours there are tomorrow when I have my weigh in. I've just made the chocolate bar and its the freezer as I type this so looking forward to see how that comes out! I bought 4 of the mint choc bars last Saturday and absolutely loved them so will be buying a weeks worth tomorrow! It's my treat every day and I look forward to them. I hope you get used to the packs though Carly, it def gets easier xxx
