Advice and opinion please - Green day

Well as some of you know I really prefer Red days and very rarely have a Green day. Well today I am having a Green day, I've had Baked Potato with baked beans for lunch. My question is I would really like to have strawberries and mullerlight yoghurt for tea but wonder if for the purpose of the plan whether I would be better going for Pasta n Sauce made with water instead. I always feel quite bloated on Green days and I am always limited to what I can have on them as I am not a fan of all things green :) I can remember 10 years ago when I first did SW and I lost 3.5 stone that time my consultant always went to great pains to say that having loads of Free Food that was common to both plans didn't help to give you good losses. For example if you are on a Red day the more of the protein items you have and just a little of the fruit etc you would lose more and the same for Green days fill up with the items common to the Green plan not the free food (veg & fruit) that is classed as free for both days. Now I have to say it worked for me then as being as I dont like veg etc if I was having a Red day I may eat 2 large chicken breasts instead of a chicken breast with some veg or salad as some did. I always had fruit during the day to make sure I wasn't lacking vitamins etc but my mine meals would always be made up of just Red or Green. Opinions and advice please on what my tea should be Strawberries and yoghurt or Pasta n Sauce :sigh:

hmmm, an interesting question.
Personally I've done Green for over two years, and only recently tried a couple of EE days. Since the EE days (Which I couldn't repeat very often), I've been aiming to eat 2/3 superfree, even though I'm on greens, and it does seem to have got my losses going again.

Remember, as well, that we (and SW) used to term items free on red AND green as 'super free' (egg, yogurts, cottage cheese etc) but the 'superfree' NOW only pertains to set fruit and veg.

I'm really interested to hear other's opinions on your ponderance....

ummm Strawberries and yoghurt for your tea???? dont think thats going to be enough. It would do for pudding.

I follow the green plan Mon - Sat, Sun I always have my roast :D

Now if I eat wheat / pasta I feel very uncomfortable and bloated, so much so that my tummy actually swells.

Instead of pasta I have rice and insteaad of wheat I have oat based products

hope this helps

I wouldn't have had a bowl of strawberries & mullerlight for dinner - that would be my pudding!

It's an interesting question you are asking, but I would say that free food is free, but IMO you should still eat it in moderation.

I think people often confuse SW with some kind of magic formula- that if you eat certain foods in certain ratios it with effect your weight loss.

SW is in essence a diet that encourages you to eat food that is high in satisfaction but relatively low in fat and calories- the understanding is that the food you are encouraged to eat freely and the small amounts of syns you are allowed to stop you feeling deprived- whatever you choose- will, bearing in mind the amount of energy a body needs in an average day, result in a fat loss. The fat is lost purely through calorie deficit and not through some magic combination.

SW also works because of the 'unlimited' rule regarding food- if you are told you can still eat you are less likely to unless you actually reguire it (as opposed to being told you cannot have anything else, which would make most people feel deprived and lose the plot!)

The short answer is- eat what you like when you like, as long as you are enjoying a varied diet of mainy free/superfree and allowing your HEX and enjoying 5-15 syns a day. How you choose to eat this food is exactly down to you.

CocktailPrincess is spot on as always.
If you had really wanted the strawberries and yogurt, you should have had it. There's no benefit in making yourself eat pasta n sauce.
Also there's no need to eat the whole packet of pasta n sauce. Just cook half if it makes you bloated. You could have still had strawberries and yogurt afterwards.

Well the theory the SW consultant gave at the time was that for your body to function it needs both Fibre and Carbohydrate the more Fibre you eat on Red Days the Carbohydrate the body needs to function so has to get that from your fat stores and vice versa for Green Days. Therefore the free food was exactly that but not aiding to the process greatly. I am not saying this is right I am just saying that is what we were told all those years ago and at the time it worked for me. Doesn't seemed to have worked so well last time but I'm 10 years older as well and I do wonder if I do need to control portions a little more as I did eat a 'lot' last time. In theory I suppose I shouldn't need to but I think you just have to find what works for your body within the plan.
