    Hey guys

I have just finished my degree in Music and in September I will be studying for a Primary PGCE at Chichester University... while at the same time hoping to lose at least 1.5stone by November. Safe to say, I am worried that I won't be able to cope with the demand of the course while still eating a healthy, low-syn diet!

Just wondering if any other MiniMin'ers are trying to lose weight while also doing a very hectic and stressful teaching degree/PGCE/GTP?

Or perhaps you already did your PGCE/degree and have some wise words of advice to share?

    Any advice would be appreciated!
I think on the plus side, I am living at home, so I can have meals cooked for me for when I get home, tired, after 10hrs at Uni... the downside is when I stay with my boyfriend and he doesn't really 'understand' SW and wants to cook a pizza or something :/

    Thanks,
    Danni

I did a PGCE in 2005/2006. I did weightwatchers at the time and managed to lose about 1 stone at one point when I tried.

You're right - you'll be shattered during the year, particularly on teaching practice, however teaching once qualified was a little less demanding. Good luck.

Hey thanks for that :) good to know it's possible! I think I'm just gonna have to take the stress until November (which is when I wanna lose the weight by) and then try and incorporate the diet to fit with my new super hectic lifestyle lol x

Hey I did the Pgde in 2008/2009. Wasn't dieting at the time but found I lost weight cos I was too busy/ stressed to snack!!don't be put off by that, it's a tough course but so worth it when you qualify! If you really want to lose the weight you'll do it! Good luck x

Buy your boyfriend a slimming world cookbook and your Mum. Then they will know what they are doing. There's a lovely Tastes of the world one. Where do people find men who cook anyway? Lol x

Oh he doesn't haha his idea of 'cooking' is throwing a bag of chips in the oven :p he doesn't eat and salad, rarely any fruit and veg... he's a bit of a pain to be around (food wise!!!) but i'm considering making up some big batches of food (spag bol, lasagne, soup, casserole) and storing them in his freezer so that when he reaches for the pizza, I can have a tasty and syn free alternative ready!!

But i must say he is very supportive, and does eat the same 'diet' as i do (minus the fruit and veg!) so i'm very thankful and grateful :) lol.... stage 2? Feeding him salad while he's asleep... mwahaha lol xx

I qualified as a teacher in 2008 via a GTP, but I wasn't trying to lose weight at the same time. I am, however, studying part time for a masters while working full time, so I know how stressful it's likely to be :) Full time teaching, about 20 hours of marking/planning/creating resources on top, and I'm supposed to fit 15 hours of Masters study in per week, hmmm! :sigh:

The best thing, if you have freezer space, is to batch cook food e.g. bolognese, soups, chilli, curry etc and freeze individual portions. It doesn't really take much more time to prepare enough veg etc for 4 portions than it does for 1 or 2 portions. That will save you time in the long run (for when you have lesson planning coming out of your ears! :))

Things like pasta and sauce or savoury rice might be good to have as a standby for the times when your bf is grabbing pizza...it'll stop you tucking in to all the yummy pizza goodness! :D:D

Try to find some low syn things that you like that can be cooked straight from frozen...good for when you come home after parents' evening and you're tired and can't be bothered!

Good luck with the teacher training hun! :D xx

    Hey dudette :D

Thank you! Ooh what are you studying for your masters? Good luck, you must have the patience of a saint and the stamina of a ox to handle all that - I hope it rewards you just as well :)

Oh you star - I used to swear by Batchelors Savoury Rice packets, just add water, 15mins in the microwave (this was during my study months at uni!) and until you mentioned it i had totally forgotten about them!! Yes, I will let the bf have the pizza and he will be jealous of my yummy SW-friendly dinners hehe!

Thanks for your advice :) Good luck with everything! Did you do primary or secondary for your GTP?

    Danni

I did a secondary GTP in Chemistry and ICT. But shhhh, I don't tell anyone about the ICT as I hated it! :D

My masters is in Education - studying with the OU. I'm on the second year of 3 at the moment, and will probably start the final year in January :)

I may have painted a slightly stressful picture of teaching yesterday - at the end of the day, I really enjoy what I do, so the stress is worthwhile. I hope you enjoy it too hun, and 12 months down the line you'll be a skinny minnie teacher! :D xx
