carbs and calories... what makes you fat

#2
I'm probably wrong as I am new to this low cal low carb diet thing.

As I understand it, you will loose weight on a low cal diet eating carbs (but slower), but reducing the carbs means you are forcing the body to turn fat into energy instead of using the carbs you are eating.

If you eat more carbs than the body requires for immediate energy, the excess will get stored around the body as fat.

If you can reduce carbs sufficiently to get your body into ketosis you will loose more weight than just using a low cal diet.

I am trying to go for low carb after a week on LT and so far I have managed to keep my body in ketosis, so hopefully I should see a few pounds go this week.

Hope this helps.

Carbs = fat

Agreed
When you eat carbs your blood sugar goes up and you produce insulin. Insulin tells your fat cells to take the sugar out of your blood and store it as fat.
So the general idea is if you eat little/no carbs you will not store fat
Eating zero carbs is too extreme for me and I can't handle the side effects. I try to manage my blood sugar (keep it fairly constant and avoid peaks and troughs which stimulate insulin production) by eating restricted carbs and making sure they are low GL/GI
Great books to read are 'Why we get fat and what to do about it' and 'The Low GL Diet'
If you really want to understand how your body works and how to avoid ever putting on fat again!
Works for me!!
