Christmas Day dinner - starter

We don't normally have a starter but this year I am going to make one - question what do I do?
Kids are not bothered so after talking about it at work have been given a great idea for one.
Sliced beetroot with slice of mozarella cheese and then sliced orange and drizzle some balsamic vinegar on top.
I am going to try that even if I am the only one in our house.:p

well i am cooking for 17 people so giving the choice of smoked salmon and prawn with avocado (no avocado for me) or melon and parma ham for non fishy people

Ther'll be 12 of us at my mums house and we'll be having prawn cocktail as normal to start hehe, although this year we've taken upon a different strategy, my mums sister making the starter, and i'll provide the dessert so it'll take the pressure off mum and dad who will only need to do the main! xxx

I can only manage the main and the pud. We never have a starter. Maybe it's time for a rethink!

Just watched one of Jamie Oliver's old programmes and he done a lovely starter. It was smoked salmon with cucumber strips, then he drizzled over a creme fraiche with lemon zest and juice mixed in with it. I think there was chopped chives too!

It looked lovely and made my mouth water, i will defo be trying it out!

Hi
As a non meat eater and I only eat a bit of tuna I am a bit restricted.:p
Will get a couple of recipe books out tomorrow to see if there are any others I could give a try.
Not doing 'main food shop' until Monday.
