Do you ever wonder???

#1
Do you ever wonder how the hell this diet actually works.

I usually have a 'good' breakfast of Alpen, a banana and a Muller. Today (shopping day) I had no Alpen so decided to have a fry(lite) up. I had 3 Morrisons sausages, 2 slices of WW bacon, beans and scrambled eggs and a Muller yoghurt. If I take today as a green day thats only 3 syns (max) if I do EE - then its all free.

On WW that would have been 14 points  Thats more than I had for my main meal at night.

When I was at my mums the other night she had a box of 94% fat free small crackers, if Id shared them with her it would have been 8 syns, yet the large plate of macaroni, tuna, grated cheese that I had was free. Looking at the 2 options I bet 9/10 people would have gone for the crackers lol

I dont know how it works - but it does, so I guess Im best not thinking about it too much :giggle:

Ive looked into it & still cant quite explain the logic. I just say - its the way what you eat breaks down & I just go with that! :p

There's some garb floating about somewhere about ketosis and when you eat fat, protein and carbs your body burns the fat first and stores the protein and carbs excess as fat. When you cut out fat, (which SW basically does, promoting good fats and allowing you very limited amounts of naughty fats) so your body burns the protein and carbs for energy, but also has to burn fat as well, so when it burns the protein and carbs it burns fat at the same time, if you don't eat any, it eats your bum and your thighs and your wobbly bits.

This goes part way to realising why the whole thing about 'the more you eat the more you lose' works.

This is my cockeyed theory in a nutshell anyway. I could be way way off.

I know what you mean starlight, i have never understood the science behind sw. When i think of everything i have eaten today (on ee) and for dinner i'm about to sit down to a mountain of syn free chicken curry and rice, followed by meringue nest with fruit and yoghurt, i can't believe that i'm on a diet. Yet when i'm off plan, i eat worse stuff but not usually as much but gain weight.

Oh well it works anyway and i'm so glad it does. x

I like the thought of the SW nanobots all your superfree foods produce munching on your bum like little pac man type things.

I think it's because most of the free foods are "self limiting" in that you can only eat so much pasta, meat, pots etc etc before you are very full or fed up of them! Also, it's because you are told it is free therefore you are not doing anything "naughty" so there's no guilt in eating those foods. On top of that you know you can have your treats too, so again, no guilt. On WW (as you know) you can opt to use your points on whatever you like, so it can be as unhealthy as unsatisfying (tummy full wise) as you want it to be!

When my friend was doing WW I once worked out my SW points for the day and it came to about 21, I think that's what I would have been eating on WW anyway but I wouldn't have been eating that food.

Does that make sense?? The "science" behind SW is that the free foods are filling and the "trigger" foods are limited therefore reducing unhealthy eating and bingeing. (although it doesn't always stop me doing that!!)

Phew, ramble or what!!

I know what you mean, Starlight.
The last couple of days I tried doing calorie counting instead as I was working away and couldn't get to a supermarket.....I gave up today because I was STARVING

I went to Marks' at lunch and bought for my lunch and dinner:
Large sushi box
Strawberry yoghurt
Beetroot salad
Pea and bean salad
Family size crunchy red cabbage, sweetcord and lettuce salad
Thai style mini chicken fillets
Tikka style mini tikka fillets
Punnet of strawberries
Punnet of cherries
................3 syns for the lot on EE

(obviously work were paying). I now feel human again and actually full for the first time in 3 days. I really wanted a binge- and just had one but on practically free food, so don'y have to feel guilty!!!
