Day 1!!

I'm sure everyone feels the same anticipation, excitement and expectations as I'm feeling now. Let's just hope that the expectations are met and the excitement out weighs the anticipation!

I started my VLCD career on the Cambrige Diet, CD, about 2 years ago. I found I loved ketosis and the chocolate Tetrapaks but the growing costs were not sustainable.

Over the last 22 months I have started to put back on some of the weight I had originally lost.

I found Exante by googling "cheaper alternatives to CD" and having read the website, and some of the forums here, decided to give Exante a start.

Long story short I joined the police at 18 and served for 5 years before deciding to take some time out to "be young" and spend time with family. After a year out i decided to try a different avenue and join the ambulance service, I have been with the ambulance service three and a half years now and due to the lack of discipline and requirement to be physically fit I have allowed my self to become a little rotund!!

I'm at the stage now where I can see my weight could start to inhibit my day to day life. I regularly attend stroke an heart attack patients and although I'm only 28 I fear my future if I stay at an unhealthy size. I have also had an overwhelming urge to rejoin the police and therefore have decided to return to my previous peak of fitness (or close enough!!)

I have weighed in this morning, a little more than I'd hoped but I have just enjoyed a week away for my wedding anniversary!! :D

About to indulge in my first iced milkshake....

Will update tomorrow.

Thank you...

Looking forward to updates! Am thinking about Exante, perhaps the working solution, or if a low-GI, simple healthy diet doesn't seem to be working...

Good luck :D

Day 2.

The first hurdle came when family said they were coming down for the day. A long day of avoiding coffees, cakes, stew and dumplings and sugary drinks overted and I felt bloody good for having the will power. There is nothing like the smell of fresh baked rolls to put you on the edge of a quick cheat.

Will power aside, I weighed myself at the beginning of day 2 and found I had lost 4lbs already...if that's not motivation enough then I'm at a loss to think what would be!!

Treating myself to about 600mls of Coke Zero a day.

Hate the water flavourings provided by Exante. Like drinking a combination of toilet cleaner and sherbet.

I had read many threads about the "new" flavour of the strawberry shakes. I tried one yesterday and must say it actually tasted really nice, it does however leave quite a chalky after taste.

Day 3 is allegedly the hardest day I any diet... I'm half way try rough day 3 as I write this and so far no major issues!!

Thanks!! It's a quick gain on Exante total solution however the carb withdrawal is tough. I keep pondering a food diet such as WW or SW but it's not going to have toss speedy a result. Good luck with what ever you decide to follow!!

I did Exante about 15 months ago and lost 3 stone and gained back about 2. I actually enjoyed some of the shakes - the vanilla one made with boiling water and some cinnamon or coffee is really nice, especially if you use a wand whisk to make it frothy. I also added Econa Hot Sauce or Tabasco to some of the savoury soups and made them up with extra water to get more out of them.. If I was really hungry I'd add a teaspoon of Swiss Marigold bouillon to stretch it even further. I am doing Alternate Day Fasting and I am using Exante on my fast days (women can have 400-500 cals, men 600 cals).

The great thing about VLCDs is that you lose weight rapidly, but it can be hard when you reintroduce food or when you are socialising at meal times. It sounds as if you have great will power if you could say no to the rolls. Good luck on losing your weight.

I agree it's an issue with regain but, as I'm sure many proclaim, I plan to use it for maintenance when I reach my goal.

I personally prefer Cambridge diet but it's just far too costly. The premixed shakes are so convenient, seems like Exante are missing a corner of the market there!

I've tried coffee in the chocolate and vanilla, lovely over ice.

Thank you for the encouragement.

How are you doing Kevin? I think the first week is the hardest, but you should see good results which kept me motivated. I loved the banana and strawberry shakes made into a smoothie with crushed ice too. I reserved by chocolate and vanilla for hot drinks. Using a peppermint teabag or a drop of peppermint extract in the chocolate one makes a fab choc mint hot chocolate.

It's good to know shakes can be made up (and perhaps even better than cold...) as warm. I've emigrated from London to Lancaster and blimey, is it cold during the winter months! Was worrying that the 'format' of a VLCD being mainly cold food wouldn't help me feel capable of being warm and therefore doing stuff.

I think, personally, that's what I need! I need proof that weight loss is achievable and affordable. I've heard a lot about strength training helping to maintain weight loss, and to avoid anything more than power walking in terms of exercise - it keeps the otherwise wasted muscles, which are essential for fat loss :) What kind of exercise are you doing?
