    Hiya, hope you don't mind me asking you a question about calorie counting., but I would really value your opinion as you have done brilliantly. Im 59years old. Have a desk job and weight this morning is 16st 6lb. Do you think 1600 cals a day sounds right , or shoukd I go lower? Would really appreciate your opinion:) . Thanks for reading. And anyone reading this hope you have a good day..oh and all opinions welcome xx

    Hi Nanacath! Thank you for your kind words! :) I would definitely say that 1,600 would be a great starting point when you've got a few stone to lose, I personally wouldn't go any lower at the outset. If you want to do it "scientifically" there are lots of online calculators for working out your BMR and TDEE, but I've always done it by trial and error, as everyone is so different. I started off on around 1,800, but I had at least 10 stone to lose, and currently eat 1,300-1,400 on weekdays - I just wouldn't go any lower than that myself. At the end of the day it is a matter of finding out what works for you, but I would always advocate starting out at a higher level to give plenty of scope for downwards adjustment. As you shrink, the calories you need also reduce (my maintenance level according to MFP is now 1,700), so it's important to be able to decrease them, and if you start too low you can't do that.     Thank you, hope you have a good one too! I had knee surgery a week ago, so am limping round even more than usual, lol, but at least I have a few weeks off work. :) xx
