I don't know what's wrong with me today, but I keep thinking about having something to eat, really badly.. I had such a great start to this diet, first time doing VLCD for me, and was delighted with the 10 lbs loss. 4 the next week, also happy. Then only lost 1 pound this week which was really disappointing.

I'm doing a mixture of SS and SS+ as I cant stand coffee without milk, and some days I want the option to have a 4th shake or half a peanut bar. But ever since my CDC told me it's ok to have a bit of ham or cucumber if I'm feeling peckish, I've been doing that. Every night! And often also a little bit of cheese. Maybe that's why I only lost a pound?

It didn't make me feel less determined though, I thought I'd be really good this week and maybe lose 4-5 pounds next Wednesday. But now I just want to reach for a buttery sandwich or chocolates - or anything! Doesn't help that I'm in on my own so feeling a bit bored. Please distract me so I don't give in to temptations :break_diet:

I do want to lose weight more than I want to eat (really). I'd heard of this diet before but never wanted to sacrifice any food or drink. I wanted to have my cake and eat it, lol. And for the first time, I had the right mentality to do it. But it's just feeling hard today... I think I have Atkings/low carb diets (where you also get into ketosis) in my mind and therefore choosing low carb options as it must be better than bread and cakes. But I suppose I just have to stop snacking! I'm gonna go and have a bath, and then have my 4th shake in a little while as that usually satisfies me. Perhaps an early night with a good book too :)

Thanks for your help ladies x

Well done Mala! You are very right. Which do you want more- food or to lose weight? When it's put that way it's a no brainer. Have a lovely evening.

Hope that you are still getting through this hungry evening Mala.
I find that an inexplicably hungry day can be followed by one that seems the easiest ever.
I have a theory about your loss of 1lb last week, we are a similar-ish height (I am closer to 5 ft 3 inches than the 5ft 2) and started at a similar weight. I have done Lighterlife before a couple of times, and will never lose more than a stone in the first 3 weeks. I think that your one stone loss in 2 weeks was so good, your body has been catching up in week 3.
Hang on in there, you can do it!

Hi Blingbabe, I woke up feeling very different this morning, and have been sailing through the day. Didn't even have my morning shake as I didn't feel hungry, saved it for when I got in from work at 5.30 - thinking that I can then have my 3rd shake in the evening and not be tempted to have a fourth one. Only had soup at work and lots of water and coffee. So far so good.

But... then came home and things have gone pearshaped. The reason? Well, I checked my scales and I've stayed exactly the same since last Wednesday night's weigh-in. I doubt I will lose much in 2 days so I felt so disappointed I reached for some ham, boiled eggs and cheese... Why do I do this? Now feeling even worse :-(

    Ah Mala,

the best piece of advice I can give you is to stay off the scales. I spent my second week on the scales everyday. Literally 2 days before my weigh in, I had lost nothing. I ended up feeling really horrible, thinking i had lost nothing. I was encouraged by everyone to stay off the scales so did just that but still expected to lose nothing. I went to see my CDC and basically told them what I expected. I was weighed had lost 6 pounds. I was shocked, they weren't. Don't expect the weight to drop a pound a day.

You can easily discourage yourself ( like you've done) and spoil all your hard work.

Please stick with it and stay off the scales please. Take it one day at a time.

I have been told that this diet CANNOT fail and I believe it. It's impossible to fail on this diet. Just stick to it and it will work for you.

What you have to do now is move on from this blip. Tomorrow is a new day. Keep on going and put this behind you. Stick to it 100% and it won't fail.

I hope you will be okay:)

Aww, thank you! You know, I was tidying up in the kitchen and suddenly realised just how thirsty I was. I gulped down a large glass of water. That's what I've done wrong, been drinking water all day at work (great) but stop when I get in. Nor did I have my 3rd pack. No wonder I then want to eat something!

Am now gonna go to bed, have an early night with my book and a large glass of water. And, hopefully tomorrow will be better. And no more scales jumping - I promise, lol!

Sorry to hear that you are experiencing some temptations.
Perhaps the loss of 1lb affected your motivation more than you think.
It is true, this is a diet that you can't fail on, its 100% guaranteed - 'does what it says on the tin'
Good Luck tommorow, you have already proven that you can SS successfully x

    Result! Thank you everyone

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who supported me on Monday night when I was feeling low, after realising I had stayed the same with only 2 days to weigh-in. Thanks to you all, I decided to put it all behind me (and stop snacking on cheese, lol!) and carry on, regardless what tonight's result was going to be.

Well, been tonight and I've lost 5 pounds - I just gasped, I couldn't believe it!!! That just goes to show that the weight really can shift between days and you shouldn't be too hung up on it, in case it makes you upset and you then go off the rails.

20 pounds in 4 weeks, I am sooooo happy!

Wow, I gasped to reading your post! Well done Mala - it wasn't an easy week for you but there has been good advice for others too on this thread, particularly 'doingitwell' with ...keep off the scales! Goodness knows how many diets I have sabotaged with my home scales.
Best wishes for this week x

I too am struggling and have been for the last couple of weeks! It's nice to see other people have the same problems. What i don't know is how to get my 'head' past the issues we seem to be having. The odd low carb snack becomes more regular and then suddenly i find myself eating 'normally' and missing mealpacks. Then i've blown ketosis, think it's all to much hard work, and the lbs stop coming off!

I did w8 a few months ago and managed 10 weeks and lost 2 stone. I've found the whole cambridge experience to be much better but i am finding it sooo hard to stick to the plan properly.

I know this is no reflection on the diet, it is just me but what i really would love to know is how to get over it!

I also know that the diet can't fail if you stick to the plan properly.... so why can't i do it??!! Cheating all the time will not help me shift the lbs but i can't seem to stop!!

    Any ideas fellow dieters?!

Hi everyone and thanks for your replies. I had an evening off the computer last night as I went shopping for my BF's son's birthday party. It's tonight (he's gonna be 6) and I've got pizza, chips, onion rings and chicken for the kids and the adults - while Im gonna have my shake, lol. I might just have a small glass of wine, I'll be opening a bottle for my friend and she wont drink it all. I never like to see wine go to waste!! Seriously, I hope I wont blow it after that glass, but I'm in a totally different frame of mind now and determined to lose this weight.

Misspinkkat, dont do what I did and think you're not gonna lose because you had stayed the same yesterday. If your weigh-in is on Monday, you'll have plenty of time for it to shift - like it did for me. Stick with it, drink plenty of water!

Blingbabe, yes, where would we all be without the support on here? And you're one of them, I've seen many of your posts by now :)

Josiejo and Littlemonstersmum, I think the 3 of us will have to forget about low carb diets, thinking it's ok to snack on them while on CD. After all, I think the food packs contain carbs anyway, my CD told me it's not about the carbs at all. So if the shakes etc have carbs, and we eat low carb but high fat things like cheese, it's not gonna be good. And I personally found, once I had started having a piece of cheese or ham, I couldn't stop. It became a habit to have some every night, thinking "I'm allowed". Now that I've stopped it alltogether, I'm feeling so much better, almost proud of myself. The feeling of being in control of my body is amazing - because like a lot of you on here, I have failed so, so many diets before and always felt 10 times worse than before starting the diet. We know this works, so we're not doing ourselves any favours by cheating and making the whole process take much longer. Why put ourselves through this (less socialising, less enjoying food like "normal" people) for longer than we have to? If we do this 100%, we will reach our goal much quicker. That's what I keep telling myself - this is not forever! Things will change, they ARE already changing, we're getting lighter and smaller nearly every day! :)

    Here's to a great start to a guilt-free weekend! Have a nice one x
