Hi all

Feeling a bit fed up tonight. I have had yet another blow out this weekend :(

I had so many good intentions this week but it just seems to go at the weekend when i am out and about. I have only recently started going out clubbing again and i cannot make it SW friendly no matter how much i try...you just don't care once you are sloshed  Then the day after i feel like rubbish so eat rubbish to make me feel 'better'.

I am not worrying about weigh in, i will take what comes, but i am worrying about this pattern that i'm setting! I want to have my social life back, i just have to find the right balance, and at the moment i havn't got it, i'm only spending half the week on plan.

I will draw a line tonight, just like i did last Sunday night, and carry on tomorrow, but i have another night out on Saturday and i don't want to feel like this again next week. I want to be happy that i made good choices while i was out and that i got straight back on plan the day after....i just don't have that determination to do it once i have a few drinks down my neck...or the next day when i feel crap for that matter.

Hmm i'm repeating myself now it seems  I'd just like some encouragment and advice to help me find that balance. Should i concentrate on maintaining for a few weeks? I can plan until the cows come home, i just lose the motivation to follow it. Had a nice healthy meal defrosted for today, but i went to McDonalds!! I'm actually making myself angry.

I think i need to remember how bad i feel when i feel like having the night (weekend!!) off.

Thanks for listening...i needed that! :wave_cry:

Hi I wonder if planning is the key? Plan how many syns your going to have on Sat. So save some up during the week to use for alcohol and have diet mixers. Alcohol reduces our resistance and increases hunger. so if you get Drunk your bound to end up with chips etc and all the dancing dehydrates so how about alternating alcohol with diet coke? Or slim line tonic ?
Dancing = body magic though so that's great!!
Good luck xx

We all have bad days hun dont worry.
Can you not have the chicken salad at mcdonalds or a plain chicken kebab..and then you wont feel so bad about it.

I found this weekend a bit difficult at my parents, but i stuck to my meal and looked forward to my syn treat when i got home, it really helps to plan ahead i even took my pitta with me! lol

Hope you feel better in the morning x

do you REALLY need alcohol to socialise and have fun?
you can still go clubbing and whatever with your friends and stay sober ( or relatively.. )..
god I sound boring but I've never been a heavy or even social drinker and I don't like being drunk.. or the after effects of it.. though I do drink on holiday or sometimes christmas..

I was wondering what the meal you had defrosted was and why you would go to McDonald's over that? Was it something nice that you fancied or just something healthy you thought you should be having?
I'd say planning and thinking about what you want for the weekend, save the syns and if you think you will want a burger get the stuff in and make a healthy but tasty version?
A lot of us struggle with the weekends as its all out of routine and everyone else seems to be having whatever they want and we are restricted. It is worth making the adjustments though and getting the weight losses even though its hard.
There are more threads about this if you wanted to hear more opinions and advice.
Good luck for the coming weekend :)

Hey CB, dont beat yourself up over it, I was the same this weekend, was on plan all day saturday and then had my fellas work christmas party ended up drinking all sorts of things (didnt pig out at all though) and then yesterday as I was so hung over I had a bowl of frosties, then a bacon and cheese sarnie, then went to my mums and had homemade meat pie, roast tats the lot, then had cheesecake for dessert, then got home and had space raiders crisps and a bar of galaxy. sooo much naughty food but i enjoyed it for one day and thats it, back on plan today walked 3 miles to the station this morning and 3 miles home tonight, and then im off to the gym. Got weigh in tomorrow so will see what damage i have done, but you just got to put it behind you and start a fresh. I know what you mean about going out socialising though, i barely drink as I usually drive a black cab at weekends, so im working, so for me its not all the time. But in future, perhaps alternate your weekends of drinking and then one weekend drive. I love diet coke, but hate it with a spirit in, so i tend to drink vodka, and soda water with a piece of lime, lovely and low syn, and then at the end of the night if you really want something to eat from the kebabary, just get chicken shish on its own, no pitta or anything. I know its no fun, and I do love a halfpounder with lots of cheese but if you can just get over that and have something healthier the next day you feel better. also if your going out, plan your food for the next day, but things like make sure you have bacon and low fat sausages in so you can feel like your having a fry up but its low syn, or save your healthy b and have one of the lovely hifi bars as your chocolate fix orrr make homemade burgers so they are ready to eat when you get in, even better!. Usually i do this and have it all planned but thought sod it yesterday. Its so easy for us to say do this and do that, but we all know when we have had a drink alot of our good intentions go out the window. dont beat yourself up honey, your back on plan now and thats what counts! :) xxx

This could have been who wrote this post! I am exactly the same Chocolate Bananas - all good intentions when I go out of sticking to vodka and diet coke, counting syns etc and about 5 bottles of wine and a kebab later - it's all gone down the drain - so you're not alone!

For years I tried to convince myself that the odd night out wouldn't hurt, and it doesn't, but I go out quite a lot so they all add up. I'm only at the start of my journey so I'm bound to slip up a lot, but the way I'm seeing it at the minute is yes I love my nights out, but for me now, losing the weight has got to be the priority and obvs when drunk that just means we all have to exert a little more willpower than normal :)

So I am out this Friday and next, all my friends are going to put money into a kitty and we are all going to drink vodka and diet coke (and I am not allowed to go to the bar!). I am going to have a straw in each drink, and after each one put it in my handbag so i can count up how many I had and count the syns. I'm staying at a friends so we are going to make SW chips before we go out to eat them when we get home, and I am going to make a SW lasagne for the next day's inevitable hangover.

I know that's a lot of planning and faff, but I'm not willing to give up my nights out completely! I just know if I do manage to stick to it, that feeling the next day will be worth 1000 bottles of wine and kebabs!
Good luck on your w/i and your next night out xx

You need to work out what it is that makes you fall off the wagon. Is it that you feel you're missing out, or just that you want something different to what you've planned, is it really the right time for you etc etc.

It seems that if you had a meal out and ready, something else must be happening that makes you ditch it and go for something else.

If you can work out what it is, then you can plan around it. I know for me, If I was out I used to fall face first into a kebab or bucket of chicken at the end of the night, so instead I used to cook sin-free sausages and keep them in the fridge. That way when everyone was getting their food at the end of the night, I wasn't tempted as I knew I had something syn-free at home.

Thank you! Someone mentioned it to me a few years ago and it does work - of course when I gt to 12 I started to get a bit worried!:p

lots more usefull tips like that in the "tip of the day" sticky thread..

if you want to plan ahead rather than count the damage afterwards, put a penny in your left pocket for each drink you've allowed syns for and move them from left pocket to your right pocket each drink you have..
when you have no pennies left it's time for the soft drinks..

Thank you so much for all your replies :D

Feeling better today, i've stuck to plan and doing some exercise later which will help. I have just cooked up a big curry for tea and frozen half for my hang over food Sunday! I'm going to make a scan bran cake Saturday ready for my sweet tooth attack with also comes with my hang over!

I think my heart is just not in it at the minute, it's like i'm talking myself into carrying on all the time, that's why my good intentions go out of the window so easily. I don't know how to get 'my heart back in it' again? Just hope my motivation returns if i just stick at it.

ColJack you are right, i don't need alcohol to have a good time, i'm allowing myself 4 drinks (which is not much from 8pm until 2am), and they will be a low syn one! Chicken kebab on the way home too.

I HOPE that if i feel ok on Sunday and not like the last couple of weeks, that it will sink in, this is how i should do it! That may give me some motivation back.

I do not want to put all my baby weigh back on...that's the only thing keeping me plodding on, and i am not covering up this summer!

I have to agree with Jack 100%

You will have to consider giving up drink in order to control it. Again, it might sound boring and I know more than a little sanctimonious ( I like that word) but the post sounded more like a scream for help and the answer is obvious. If you lose control when you drink, then remove it from the equation.

Unless you can stick to 15 syns worth on a night out (2 small glasses of wine?) then don't drink.

Sorry that isn't what you want to read at all, but it will give you a fighting chance for all the other stuff to fall into place.

15 might be a bit harsh steve, after all we can flexi syn..
that said however, if you find yourself saving most of your syns so you ca go on the piss every weekend then it might be worth a long hard look at it..

Not that im out much these days but when I am I find knowing there is some food ready at home enough to stop me going to get synful food eg syn free curry that just needs zapped in the microwave or low fat super noodles which always feel really naughty to me but syn free (green day obviously)

microwave is obviously the safer of the two when under the influence! save the supernoodles for the next day

Thanks again. If i lose it again at the weekend then i'm just going to have to stop drinking until i can get a bit stronger (if i had the motivation that i had in the beginning then i'd be ok!).

It takes such an effort to form these new healthy habits, and a lot of time to lose the weight, but i can see just how easy it would be to slip back into old ways...it's an ongoing battle isn't it!

*edit - i'm making myself sound like a right alchy!*

I find it easier to avoid alcohol, and to be honest, I used to go out every weekend, but now I much prefer to stay home, or visit friends. I think I used to have fun because I drank, but going out to the same places every weekend gets pretty boring (hence the alcohol consumption). Now I tend to go out if it's a special occaision, or just every now and again and I enjoy it so much more than going out every weekend.

I'm out all the time because i havn't been anywhere for 18 months! (Pregnancy and baby days!) I'm sure i will get sick of it again :p

Well as we ascertained in that recent thread, Flexi-synning is not about saving them up for booze etc.

I'm looking at things through the eyes of a 100%er though Jack lol.

I'll be quiet, i'm getting obsessed again ain't I?
