Hiya, i've come over from lipotrim and lost about 2 stone but i miss eating so i'm trying low carb, can anyone tell me how many carbs and cals i'm looking at sticking to a day, thank you x

3lb off, its not as big as my other losses but its started coming off again xx

Hello! It really depends on what diet your doing. Atkins is less than 20g carbs a day, idiot proof diet is less than 40g, neither of those have calorie counting. Vlcds like the one you came off are less than 60g a day and less than 800 cal.

I don't do either. I'm doing John briffa's which is basically primal eating - no wheat, grains, processed stuff, fruit and dairy in moderation, meat, fish, nuts, veg freely. I don't limit my calories but monitor them on my fitness pal and end up between 1600-2000 cals a day and between 30-60g carbs. Weight loss is slow, but I am losing, and it's done wonders for my energy levels and skin. Anyway, hope this helps!!!

As phoenyx says - the lower the carbs the less you have to worry about cals as appetite will naturally be restricted.

Thank you both for your advice, i have been losing steadily. I think i've been doing the primal one because them foods seem familiar in my diet. i don't mind losing steady, i think my habits are changing too, i went for a meal the other day and i just ate the meat and some veg, not a single chip on my plate, ordinarily they would b screaming at me to eat them but i didn't even fancy them, progress at last, this time i want to keep on losing through learning good habits xxx

I do the same but add a little dark chocolate and red wine in on occasion. and I have a little full fat dairy (cheese, full fat Greek yoghurt, cream)

Also listen to paleo podcasts, livin la vida low carb is my fav at mo, any you'd recommend?

I got into it because I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and told to lose weight. I went along conventional routes but it didn't work for long, so started playing with low carb, vlcd and Atkins. Struggled to stick to both of these but started reading more about low carb and came across marks daily apple. I find paleo so easy to stick to. If anyone had said I'd love living without grains, legumes, milk or processed food I would have told them they were mad!!! My family think I'm bonkers but I'm hoping my results will speak for themselves!

Hi, can I ask what you drink if you are cutting out dairy? I love a cuppa with milk and think this is my downfall actually..........I have drunk fruit teas and of course water, but I really miss a cup of tea and just can't drink it black.............

I am following the Harcombe diet and eat mainly "fat meals" ie low carbs. She advocates eating whole natural foods, nothing processed and eliminating all sugars including sweetners and listening to your body............since doing this I have discovered that actually fruit does me no favours, it triggers a sugar craving and stalls my weight loss. On the whole I feel less bloated, less wind issues (used to be a real problem for me :giggle), less sluggish and lethargic so def want to continue eating in this way, but need to boost the weight losses as I have stalled for over a month now and tbh its getting me down a bit :( Any suggestions?

Hi DD, have you tried other black teas with flavouring (rather than just the fruity ones)? You may find you like those ok black or green teas. If you have a specialist tea shop nearby, maybe you could try a few out. I like my builders tea with milk, bit black like earl grey, lady grey, mango indica (actually all the blacks with fruit i like). Also different chines teas can be good too.

Ref ideas - think we were discussing on your diary - intermittent fasting can be effective for breaking stalls. See marksdailyapple for more info

I've been looking into primal/paleo since you mentioned it on JUDDD phoenyx. I need to use up our current food stocks in the cupboard and then I think I'm going to get the whole family onto it. I've already cut out the grains and I don't usually eat dairy anyway (cheese being the exception - but I've managed to cut that out recently) so I just need to look at our other foods. (I'd love to start tomorrow but with stocks in the cupboard and freezer I can't afford to waste food!!!)
I think my only exception will be milk for the children and my 90% dark cocoa chocolate.
So, roll on the summer holidays and a whole new way of eating for us all.

Oh it's such a fab way to eat. I have been dieting on and off for 20 years, and whilst you try to buy in to that whole "it's a lifestyle, not a diet" stuff, this is the first time I have truly believed it. It makes me laugh when people tut and say you shouldn't be eating that (when I add cream to my coffee, wolf down a whole packet of nuts or eat the skin on a roast chicken / fat on my pork chop / add oil to my cooking) but I've lost a stone and a half and over a dress size now. I cannot sing the praises of paleo enough :)

I got very frustrated with my brother a couple of nights ago as he was telling me that I eat too much fat.......despite the fact that I have lost 2 stone!!!! I am happy on this way of eating and I too can see low-carb, no processed all natural foods as the way forward to a much healthier, happier life :)

Well they're all daft, aren't they!!! I dont bother arguing - I hope that in a few months time the results will speak for themselves!

To be honest, a few months ago I would have though you'd lost a few marbles if you thought eating fat was healthy! But I struggled to exercise on low carb so I did some research and it all pointed to needing to increase fat intake. So now according to mfp my daily intake of fat is 60% and I feel great, and am running fine too :) I never thought you could do cardio on a low carb diet!! Just shows how brainwashed we were by the "you need carbs for energy" mentality!

Even the biologist at the school i teach at tells me I must eat cabs for breakfast "coz your brain needs glucose"....so how come I feel great on just coffee & cream then ??!!! Or even better on a fry up :)

Lol - i still remember my dance teacher 1.5 yrs ago telling me it was "impossible" to do lots of exercise on low carb......now i just get compliments on how well i look:). Oh yes and had to up my exercise from 1-2 classes a week to 6-8 to use all that energy :D

Dukan was a nightmare. I had a reduced appetite after a few days which was good. But the restriction of foods for me, a very fussy eater, was an absolute killer.
I still use some of the principles though.
I think like most people I'm discovering that a diet is what works for you and I'm having to use the principles from different diets to build my own one that works for me.
I use JUDDD and I have used processed foods (and a bit of junk): not because I particularly want to but because I'm still trying to work out what I can eat for a set number of calories. (and I'm not fantastically organised at the moment!!!). I'm getting better, my diary is getting healthier/purer but I'm not going to beat myself up if I resort to a WW preprocessed meal cos I'm late in from work, starving and need the kids to see me eat something that looks like a real dinner.
The thing I'm struggling with is potatoes - I love potatoes and they seem to be hidden in the oddest things! (for example soup!). But I really want to avoid eating them as they seem to be one food which triggers weight gains (every time I've had 100g I've gained the next day!)

Potatoes! Yum! I have lots of triggers but nuts at the moment. I seriously could eat thousands of calories worth!

I too think the best diet for each of us is probably a combination of more than one!! We need to learn to listen to our bodies and find out what it is that works for each of us ...........we are all different so one size doesn't fit all.
