I think it depends how much you have to lose in the first place. It seems by and large that the more you have to lose the higher the loss in the first week therefore some people have lost as much as 11lbs in the first week. This is my first week, never having done a VLCD before, it might help to have a good read of the diaries here and the other ones such as Exante, Lipotrim and Lighter Life (there are a few more too) to get a feel for people experiences
