I'm devastated.....

Went to my Dr's today as i needed their signiture to commence the cambridge diet and dr wouldn't sign it as doesn't agree with these diets. Just keep crying as i'm so overweight and tried the weight watchers and slimming world but got no where.
I was doing it for me but also to make sure that i would be alive to see my boys grow....so scared that if i don't do it now i'll die.
Just don't know where to go now. all the dr said was that i should exercise but i tried to explain that due to my size i'm too embarressed to go swimming or to the gym but she said she found that worrying and felt it was more because i don't want to do it.
Just feel gutted as was so excited at prospect of losing weight and quickly.

Thats ridiculous! Can you get a second opinion??

Hey hon ..
Hang in there, they maybe a way round it.. What is your BMI and how tall are you?? Have you been to a cambridge councellor yet? If so did she advise you a plan you should be doing?

can you go to a different doctor? I'm so sorry you are going through such a hard time, and it seems so unfair as you are taking a pro active step to try to lose weight too!

Pay for a private Drs opinion!

I have seen the councillor who was lovely but because my bmi is just over 40 and i've got overactive thyroid i had to get a signature.
Don't know if i can face another lecture from a dr again, found it really upsetting. still cryin now.

Aww Pink, <<big hugs>>

You don't need your dr's permission to do all of the programmes with CD, so don't worry :) There are plenty of different options with CD to suit everyone.

You sound like you have a fantastic mindset for the diet. It's completely understandable feeling uncomfortable about going swimming. I think a lot of people if they are unhappy in themselves feel that way and it's insensitive of your dr to make you feel silly for that.

Please don't be gutted. You can and will lose weight quickly. The losses on the other levels are very similar to doing sole source (SS).
Have you got a cambridge diet councellor (CDC)? If not, then have a look no the website for one in your local area. They will be able to talk to you about the other options.
On a side note is there another dr in the same surgery that is a bit nicer? I don't want to be sexist, but I have always found male dr's a lot more sympathetic personally.
Take care and don't worry, you'll get lots of help and advice on here x

Watergirl you are so right. I find male doctors much more sympathetic. Women doctors suck!

Don't give up, there are ways around it!

Have a chat with your CDC and they will advise the best solution, the Dr's signature should just mean that you can't do SS (unless there are other medical reasons you need a signature), there are other parts of the plan you can follow and then move to SS.

Hang on in there, there will be a solution!

Pinkbutterfly you only need permission from your Dr to go on sole source. You could do one of the other plans to get your BMI under 40, especially if you don't have far to go, then switch to sole source once you reach it. Definitely speak to the cousellor agan. x x x

Other Dr's in your surgery may do it hun. If I was you i'd book an appointment with a different Dr.
Good look sweetie. :)
Hugs x x x

Thank you everyone, i've been coming on here for past 2 weeks reading all your posts... your all doing amazing and made me see that i could do it...i'll ring my CDC tomorrow, don't want to get really upset on phone to her as i really sob at times and can't get words out just sound like a grunting pig! ! Thanks again xxxx

I'm sure they've heard it all before hun!!

Let us know how you get on tomorrow, fingers crossed for you! x

Wouldn't worry about the crying :) I get really upset and emotional about my weight. I went to the dr the other day armed with a list of all my symptoms because I knew I'd cry the second I got in there.
CDC are usually sympathetic and completely understand how emotional a time this can be.

Aww hun, dr's can be so unsympathetic, just because your dr didn't agree with the plan doesn't mean they can't just sign the bloody form! My dr told me that he wasn't happy that I was 'wasting his time' on an appointment 'just for a signature' and for something he doesn't really think works, hmm well, this forum suggests otherwise as we all know! In the end I just sat there and I think he realised that I wasn't leaving until I had his signature on the form so he signed it, thrust the paper back into my hand and I left, he didn't even keep his copy lol! I can't wait to go back and see him when I get to goal weight and tell him I did it thru the Cambridge diet!!!

In your face moody dr!!!

Good luck hun, defo see another dr and I hope to see your progress in the following weeks x

YES!!!! But when i got really upset she said she understood how i felt as some of her family were big......

Don't let one opinionated Doctor put you off starting this fab diet!!

I had to laugh last week as had to see a specialist at the hospital and told her I was doing CD and she said "i don't like that diet" and then said "actually I don't know much about it"! and then told me that she used to be 14 stone. When I said "don't tell me...you lost weight with sensible eating and exercise!" She replied "oh no, I did a major crash diet, but don't ever tell anyone"!!!!

I agree with all the advice so far....go and see another doctor, or do a higher plan than SS until you have lost a bit of weight....which I guarantee won't take you long.

Whatever weight you are hun, you are beautiful and you are amazing for taking this step, so keep smiling xxx

Hey pinkbutterfly,

I'm so sorry this has happened to you xxx I hope to get to speak to your CDC to sort something else out. If you start ss+ and lose a bit of weight your doctor my see you are serious and then sign the form? xxx

I think that is outrageous! You actually want to do something about your weight and they are literally not letting you! I know round by me the doctors (not my docs as this surgery is rubbish!) charge £120 to sign the form! My doc charges nothing and just signs it then and there ! Lovely man he is!
I definatly think you should get a second opinion. Is there only one doc at the practise?
