Hi guys.. thought id post and ask your opinions on this one.

Theres a lady that attends my sw class, shes quite a big lady but is doing very well on plan, she's lost 7stone and is still going strong, shes got a long way to go but shes done incredibly well. She was on a mobility scooter when she started and now doesnt need it at all.. goes swimming 3 times a week and even to the gym. (puts me to shame really, to think she has teh confidence to got to the gym, yet i put going off till i was more or less at target!)

anyways. My C often uses her as an example, and loves to tell everyone about her success, which i think is lovley- however.. yesterday i turned up to class very early, hadnt really been paying attention to the time. This lady goes in half hour before the C to set up all the stuff for her because she doesnt work and likes to feel like shes being productive.

Mid- convo, she lands a massive bombshell on me.

She doesnt follow the plan, never has done, never intends too.. and cant understand how shes managed to loose weight already.

I said ' so you follow sw more of a guideline'

no she says, i just watch the little things i know will make me gain weight, like cakes and butter and bread.. but i just eat more or less everything in moderation. Iv told sue (my C) this..

Now dont get me wrong, i think her weight loss is amazing and if shes been able to just loose weight by watching what she eats, thats fabulous.. but im actually quite annnoyed.

She comes every week, claiming to follow the plan, and my C as i said, always uses her as an example. I feel like this is SO misleading to the other members. I know what they dont know wont hurt them, and have no intention of telling any of them..

but i used to really look to her for motivation to keep going and really give the plan my all on bad weeks, but i feel a little deflated, now.. to realise that shes never followed the plan. at all..and that my consultant has always known this.

What annoys me more, is that a matter of months ago my C applied for woman of the year for this lady, but couldnt continue futher in the comp as she still had a long way to go and is still classes as morbidly obese. - you cant enter someone into a slimmingworld comp, who's lost none of her weight following the plan!?

Does it really matter? Classes have obviously focused her and she has lost alot, shes obviously getting something out of sw even if it is just attitude. I say live and let live, and good on her.

It doesn't matter how we lose the weight if it works then thats fine. What I find wrong is the lie which is going on, the C is lying to the class & SW itself, and the member is lying to the rest of the group who believe she is following SW.

The C probably isn't too concerned as she is getting money each week of her & she helps out. I'd be mad.

I kind of agree with both posts here, good on her for losing the weight, but why go and claim it SW that's helped her, when she openly admitted that it hasn't? Difficult one this. What did you C say Fern?

But if she hadn't told you you'd have still thought she was following the plan properly. I've joined classes before and still done my own thing. Just needed the discipline of the group and weigh in.

I am sure she will not be the only one if everyone was honest.

You know I have started to type several things in response to this and deleted the lot!!

I personally dont think it matters how she lost the weight, or that she attends class every week as although she doesnt follow the plan, she clearly gains from the weigh in and class atmosphere.....but I dont think it is totally out of order if your C knows she doesnt follow the plan that she falsly praises her losses thanks to sw when she knows that isnt the case. But the other side of the coion is, maybe subconsiously this lady does more or less follow it, but thinks that its clever to tell people she hasnt? You never know what goes through some peoples minds or what makes them tick.

Oh no, dont get wrong .. its the lie i have the problem with.. not how shes loosing her weight.. Id love to be able to just 'watch what i eat' and eat everything in moderation. She obviously has far more self control than i do..its my issue that everyone else thinks shes following slimmingworld, and using her as an example.

My c wasn't there at the time, so im not entirly sure what the deal is there. I hadnt imagined my C to be that sort of person, but this lady says shes always been honest with her about it. Which makes me a bit mad.

I didnt stay to class, and even if i had done.. i wouldnt have openly said anything about it in front of everyone..

but do feel mislead to an extent. am i just over-reacting?

I can understand that you would be shocked and upset by this - but even though she might not be counting syns or hexs or whatever, she is following the SW ethos of everything in moderation.

You would be hard pressed to find someone who rigidly sticks 100% to the plan all of the time. There are occasions where its just not possible to. For her, it seems that is ALL of the time, but what she is doing is working and she will be getting something out of the classes - and most importantly is rescuing her health.

I dont think your C should be holding her up as an example or entering her into the competitions, but she does deserve praise for her achievements. I can see that it would be disappointing for you to find that out, but ultimately we all go with the same goal in mind, to lose weight and feel better - and shes achieving that with the support of the C and the group.

i'd feel a bit cheated if i was you, too. its not that shes lost the weight - good on her for that as you said - its just why use her as an example if shes not even following the plan? If she gets something outta group, and wants to come every week then why the hell not but - why use her as an example and enter her for WOTY ?! i'd feel the same as you i think fern xxx

I also dont think it matters how she lost the weight or if she goes to class just for the motivation, however (theres always a but isn't there :D) I have a problem if the C helps here keep the myth going and then puts her forward for WOTY

If it was WOTY following any plan fair enough but not for the SW plan that just takes away from someone actually following SW.

Could you imagine if she was at target and put forward to the finals of WOTY and won, there would be uproar if this came out

I bet you are wishing she never told you I wonder why she did feel the need to tell you?

I think thats kinda part of it too..

why tell me!? i wonder whether its because iv been a T member there for a while, and she maybe assumed i wasnt following sw much anymore myself.. obviously this isn't true.. but maybe that's why. Im really not sure.. but i deffinatly felt better about it when i thought she was LOL

*sigh* i am greatful she didnt make it through WOTY, only because, as you say.. someone else would have missed out who had actually used sw to loose thier weight.

Im very supportive of her, in the sence that shes made massive medical progress and has lost amazing amounts of weight, i just cant help but feel mislead, by my c aswell as her.

Hmmmm this reminds me of a certian scene in "Fight Club" where a character from the film attends different support classes to get sympathy, support, self-help etc for things she doesnt actually need!

Maybe she is seeing the SW club as more as a social thing, but she should be coming clean and not lying to her fellow class members about how she is losing her weight. Very misleading of her. What did your C say?

Maybe she was being modest as she wants to play down her achievement as she is embarressed about getting the praise all of the time.

Or what she may mean is that she has followed it in spirit but not to the letter and to be honest, when you are bigger, I think you can get away with that.

It is a healthy eating plan for life and not a diet and so if she gets her inspiration from going to SW classes then that's good enough for me. If she had said she was throwing up after every meal or just eating 5 bars of chocolate a day and nothing else then its worth worrying over but if she is basing her eating on what she has learnt through classes, and has lost all that weight, then that is still inspirational to me.

I dont think theres anything wrong with her coming to classes for the discipline of a weigh in and possibly enjoys the social side of it but shes got a bit of a brass neck allowing all that praise to be heaped on. I think the Consultant is totally wrong holding her up as a good example when shes not doing the plan. Of the 2 of them, Id say the consultant is far more at fault than the woman

If the consultant knows then she really shouldn't use her as an example or put her forward for any of the SW awards (eg WOTY etc) or use her as a shining example to the group.

I've known people follow WW when they got to SW classes because they can't get their head round SW but like the class, also, well before EE I knew a lady who had peas/sweetcorn on a red day and meat on a green day and counted them as free foods - it worked for her, the C just told her not to tell the group too loudly about it as it might not have worked for everyone.

If this lady has lots to lose then the weight will fall off her by watching the bad stuff, I bet she has seriously changed some eating habits but, in time, that will all slow down and perhaps she'll then have to follow SW properly to lose the rest?

So, I think that she has a right to be there for the group support but should be quite honest that she doesn't even follow SW "loosely".

Can you imagine if she won, went up to get her award and said "i don''t follow the plan, never have." "I told my Consultant this". I say this lighthearted but can you imagine??

We can all say its good she is losing but it is wrong to promote SW Ethos to her weight loss. Also she is standing in the way of people who have ACTUALLY followed the plan and have been entered and lost incredible amounts of weight.

No i don't think it is fair, we would not go to WW and say we follow SW would we< they would not like that.

Good on her for the weight loss like, i am not dissing that achievement.
