Less syns more weight loss?

If you're just starting have all your syns and healthy extras then when you hit a plateau you can cut down if necessary. Many people find that if they don't eat enough they don't lose weight. Crazy but true, so tuck in! The healthy extras are there to make sure you get enough fibre and calcium anyway.

No it is more likely to slow your losses down. You need the HE's as they are the fibre and calcium, deficiency in either of these can cause you health problems so try to have at least one each of them. Try to have your Syns, you can use them on anything you like, treats, drinks, in recipes. You can even save them up and use them for a night out or special occation as long as you use them all within the week x

Firstly, your Healthy Extras are there to provide you with things we all need in our diet - fibre, calcium, protein etc. You are advised to have them. I didn't used to, but I've found that having them actually helps me. Especially if I use my HEb for high-fibre foods such as Ryvita and bran flakes. Fibre is great for helping get things moving, which aids weight loss.

Having a bit of cheese makes me feel like I'm being really indulgent, as other diets I've been on are very restrictive when it comes to cheese. I've never eaten this much cheese in my life! But calcium isn't just good for your bones - it also aids weight loss apparently. There has been research done and results have shown that women who have a calcium-rich diet on average lose more weight than those who eat the same kind of thing but without the calcium. I know you can't believe everything you hear when it comes to 'research' but this is one I really think works.

When it comes to syns, you need to find out what works best for you. Most people here, from experience, would advise that when you're starting out, you eat your full syn allowance. Otherwise, when you hit a bit of a blip or stall in your weight loss (which happens to lots of us, but not all) you wouldn't have anything to cut back on.

Also, there's such a thing as not eating enough, believe it or not. Having you syns ups your calorie intake slightly. If you eat too few calories, your body really does go into starvation mode - it clings on to whatever fat it's got, because it doesn't know where or when the next calories are coming from, so it stores them for use, in case it needs them..thus making it harder to shift!

I think the best thing when you first start is to stick to the plan absolutely by the letter...follow the book, do what you're told. You'll lose weight! Then, if you're finding things aren't working for you, that's when you can start tweaking things to suit you.

This is absolutely true!
When I first started following SW many moons ago, we only had 1 choice of HE A per day and it was because of this research that we had the option of another HE A. Make the most of it........I do!!!!

Thanks guys - that helps a lot.

I will start to follow the book more closely and allow myself syns.

any other tips you have let me know as i need all the help i can get!! Wedding is in July and i would to loose 1.5 stones (currently 11 stone!!) xxx

Drink plenty of water/fluid and get some activity in. Will help speed things along nicely. I am planning to just up exercise if/when i hit plateau or slow down, rather than dropping syns lol - 15 is perfect for me thank you :)

Yeah I'm not too crazy about dropping Syns either! The thing I love so much about SW is the lack of restriction so I wouldn't do so well with less Syns!

Hi babes, syns are there to take the guilt out of dietting and to allow you a bit of what you fancy each day. If you don't use them or need them all then fine, it's knowing they are there when you want them. You won't lose weight any quicker by not having them but you can use them in loadsa ways. Maybe in sauces or mayo or butter etc rather than focusing on choc, crisps etc.

As for healthy extras, they are a recommendation to ensure you're having a nutritious and balanced diet. Again, cutting them out will not speed up your weight loss, nor will it slow it down but it's a really good idea to fit them in where you can.

i find when i dont eat my He's every day or have more than 5 syns a day i dont loose any weight or sometimes gain!! then when i think im gonna put on weight because ive eaten so much durin the week, i actually get a loss! its crazy xx
I found the same thing, I tried to cut my Syns right back and ended up gaining!
