Mandarin & Chocolate Cake

SW chocolate and mandarin sponge cake.

12 syns for the whole cake, serve 8 small slices or 4 large ones and only 3 syns for a large slice
Cut into 8 and its just 1.5 sins each slice!!!!!!!!

6 eggs
1 oz. self-raising flour
1 oz. cocoa powder
9 tablespoons splenda
2 teaspoons orange essence

1 tub quark
Tin of mandarin segments in juice
2 teaspoons orange essence
6 Tablespoons splenda

Whisk egg whites until stiff and , in a separate bowl whisk egg yolks with the orange essence and splenda, add a 1/4 of the egg white & beat until pale yellow.

Add the flour and coco powder gradually & fold into the mix carefully, when done add the rest of the egg whites & fold in.

Pour into 2 sandwich tins and even out with a spoon. Place in the oven on 190 for about 15 minutes and check regularly. Once done the cakes should be springy if you press your finger in the middle.

Take out of the oven, leave to cool, and carefully remove from the sandwich tins.

Beat the quark with the orange essence and sweetener, spread 3/4 on the bottom layer of the cake and arrange the mandarin segments. Put the top of the cake on & use the rest of the filling to top and add the mandarins as required.

to be honest the recipe was posted on here from someone else, so iam not too sure, but if you look it up in the search bit, am sure you will find it and can ask the woman who posted it, but am sure its not alot for the mandarins, but mainly for the flour and the choco powder..xxxx..i think you could do the cup cakes yeh, thats a fab idea hun.

Lol!!!! I like your thinking Cocoa fiend! unfortunately the logical person in me would have to do battle with the fat person in me, and round it up to 2 ;)

for anyone who has made this how would you rate it for sweetness? (between 1 and 10)

I'm struggling to find something sweet to keep me away from the angel delight as i don't want to blow all my syns on that everyday!! haha

I made this cake today and it was so yummy although I changed it round a bit as I put options in the frosting!

Does anyone know if the syn values change if I used options in the cake mix as the recipe said 'cocoa' or is that the same thing? I've been trying to work out the syn value of my cake and if anyone could help me out I'd be happy!

I used:
Sweetner: 0 syns
1oz flour: 5 syns
6 eggs: 0 syns
1oz options 'belguim choc' hot choc: ?

Quark: 0 syns
Sweetner: 0 syns
2 sachets chocolate brownie options: 6 syns
Strawberries (uncooked): 0 syns

this cake is very nice and very sweet and chocolatly i think!!!the topping of quark and sweetna keeps very well for about 3 - 4 days as i ate a piece a day, for nearly a week lol!!!MMMmmmmmm
took a cake to slimming world class monday and everyone loved it too...you can lower the syns even more if you use fresh fruit, like strawberries!!!!

Ive made this and it was lush. Even the boyfriend likes it !! Was really tasty and so easy to make. I think i put mine in the oven for a little too long as it was very firm but wasnt too bad at all :). I was impressed! x
I just made this cake and it looked lovely, but did not taste good. We used 1 tbsp less sweetner than stated and I could taste was the sweetner. The cake was ok- but the quark not very nice. Maybe its just the quark I don't like.

Going to have a play around and see if I can make it a bit nicer- thinking maybe half the sweetener and some honey.

I am disappointed :(
