There was an article in my running magazine (reading it makes me FEEL fit) about Metabolic typing, and how there are different metabolic types (these link in with blood groups I think, but it's all a bit complicated), and different people need different food types, and their bodies will struggle to use other food types, which their bodies will just store as fat. (This is a real nutshell version ok, so scientists, no heckling please).
Anyway - I did a survey test (quite long, but free) and found that I am a parasympathetic eater, and should eat less carbs, and more meat (with lots of veg). This is how I always WANTED to eat as a child, but got told off for not eating my potato (singular in those days) and gradually got used to the carbs! Hah!
Obviously, being a SWer means I can give this a go and still stay on plan. I'll let you know if it makes a difference!

Has anyone else tried these guidelines?

interesting reading your conclusions, I long suspect that my husband and I must have very different 'losing weight styles', whichever plan we are on, only one of us will lose - is there an online free test so I can determine my own results?

This was the one I used (free, but you do have to 'register' to do it). You print it off and follow the instructions on the paper copy.

Free Metabolic Typing

The site itself doesn't have so much info about it all as some of the others I looked at, but I can't remember what I googled to find the best ones at the moment. I was trying to fnd the leaset biased ones (ones at least not blatently selling stuff), but the more scientific sites are a bit confusing.

Looking forward to a good old fashioned Red weekend anyway.

I'm a parasympathetic type as well. I'm going to try some Red days to shake my weight loss up a bit as I've been fannying around with the same 1 or 2 lbs for ages now!!

It seems I'm parasympathetic too (whatever that means), although it was a very close run thing with column 3 (balanced sympathetic).

More meat, then?

Either EE or Red I suppose.

I've never done more than a day on red before, as green is so much cheaper, then I just did EE. But I was suprised how long I felt full after a chicken and salad lunch compared with the pasta, so maybe I'm onto something here... fingers crossed eh.

I sent my results back as it said in the email. A few hours later I got an email - the email tried to sell me an ebook and told me the sort of foods/diet I should follow in useful detail.

I assume it will gerenate spam :sigh:, but the info seems interesting and I have no plan to take their sales further.

I didn't send my results back - I just printed off and did the test to find my type.

To be honest the stuff online seems to be either sales orientated, or just too scientific for me to get my head round.

I went back to the Women's Running mag article and reread what started me off on looking into it. Basically that says:

CARB TYPES: focus on slow releasing carbs (60%) of diet (wholegrains, pulses, brown rice, millet, buckwheat, etc) and plenty of vegetables. Go for low fat dairy products, light and lean proteins such as turkey, chicken, pork, lean ham, light fish and eggs. Focus more on veg than fruit.
Avoid white, refined carbs, sweets, sugary drinks, caffeine and fruit juices.
Restrict high fat, heavy proteins (red meats) as these can make you sluggish.

PROTEIN TYPES: Focus on protein with every meal and snack. Protein should make up 40% of your diet. Best types include beef, liver, duck, lamb, pork, game and seafood. Include plenty of healthy fats / oils (30% of diet) including oily fish, nuts, seeds, coconut oil, olives and avocado. You can also eat whole-fat foods such as cheese, eggs, cream and milk.
Avoid excess carbs which will make you tired - limit these to about 30% each day. Focus on vegetables rather than grains, and steer clear of potatoes. Choose heavier fruit such as bananas, avocados, coconut, apples and pears, and accompany with protein such as nuts or yogurt.

MIXED TYPES: Include a range of foods from the protein and carb suggestions. Moderate protein (30%) healthy fats (20%) and slow-releasing carbs (50%). Eat regularly throughout the day - three meals and two snacks.
Avoid repetitive diets - include a wide variety every day.

I'm Type B (balanced sympathetic and parasympathetic
influences) whatever that means! I hope I don't have to have all red days, I struggle with those.

i had a look at that but from another site, i came out as a mixed accelerator, it was quite uncanny how accurate some of the statements it said about my personality and outlook, although that could have maybe been gleened ffrom the questions it asked.

Okay so I'm a parasympathetic with sympathetic and balanced influences... What should I eat?!

I did the quiz and I appear to be an extreme parasympathetic. So last week I cut my carbs down by one meal a day. And this week I lost 5lb. Coincidence? Maybe. Will find out next week after another week of doing the same thing.
