My mission to lose 3 stone with the help of Slimming World and minimins!

As I've been on the forum for a few days now I thought I'd get in the spirit of things and write a diary.

This forum has been amazing so far for someone like me who isn't able to go to group but still believes in the SW way of life.

I'm currently 24 and working full time in the financial sector. I consider myself very lucky to have a lovely boyfriend, a hilarious cat and a beautiful new home.

I weigh 12st 4.5lbs (down from 12.9 last week!). I am 5ft 4in and currently wear dress size 14. My targets are to weigh 9st 9lb and to fit a size 10.

I've always enjoyed food and never believed I had a negative way of eating. I genuinely love salad, prefer brown bread, and have always cooked my meals from scratch. I was brought up on good, healthy food and was only given treats in moderation. Through my teens I was never skinny, but I wasn't fat either. My sister was always fatter than me, and that gave me reassurance that I wasn't that bad.

It was at university that the pounds started piling on. I went from eating normal sized bag of maltesers a couple of times a week to a share-size bag almost every day. My OH and I would eat for 4 rather than 2. Dominos pizza was a weekly affair.

It was probably the sudden freedom to eat what I wanted, when I wanted. Mixed with a generally lazy attitude I couldn't believe my eyes when I stepped on a set of scales at a friend's house recently and it registered 13st. Since then I've had short affairs with slim fast, 5:2 and calorie counting, but always given up after a few days.

The last week or so has been amazing. I really believe in the plan. It's only been a few days but the changes already are amazing. I'm so energetic, I feel full halfway through meals and I don't feel like I'm on a diet at all. I can still socialise, eat chocolate, drink diet coke, and cook food I really enjoy.

My only worry is that I'm not sure whether my target is realistic. I don't believe I have ever weighed under 10st during adulthood and yet I've challenged myself to 9st 9lb. My weight gain has happened over about 10 years and as I'm quite young, I just don't know any different. What do people think?

Fingers crossed SW will change my life. It's been a great start. I'm doing the squat challenge, the couch to 5k challenge, and I walk 2 miles to work every day (sometimes I walk back, too!). I'm using myfitnesspal just to track what I eat, squiddie's SW Record spreadsheet to keep track of my losses, and minimins to keep me motivated.

Wish me luck! xxx

Hi, there's no way of saying what our targets should be, other than our own bodies. Nothing is set in stone, and you can change your target when the time is right, so just aim for your target at 9st 9lbs and when you approach it you will know whether your target should be more or less than that.
Good luck with your goals.

Thank you that's really helpful and definitely makes sense. I guess it's just a bit of fear of failure!

Today has probably been my most difficult day on SW and yet there's no real reason why! I just seem to be craving chocolate today and have found it hard to stay on track. But I have!

I had some blueberry wheats with milk then an apple this morning and did my usual 2 mile walk to work. Then I had egg fried rice for lunch followed by redcurrants (currently £2 a punnet at M&S - YUMMY). Then I accidentally had a bit of toblerone (didn't go overboard). Then tonight was chicken and mushroom pasta and massive salad followed by a mullerlight.

I've been really good with drinking water today which is probably one of the things I find most difficult. I work in a huge office and have to go down six flights of stairs to go to the loo, and I think I went 5 times between 9:30am and 12pm! Everyone was worried I had diabetes or cystitis! At least the stairs should help with toning. :D

I treated myself to some new running shorts and vest today to keep me motivated. It's the first of my wages I've spent this month on non-essentials (get paid on the 20th) and it's much better than a massive bag of maltesers or a big piece of cheesecake.

Dinner at a friend's house tomorrow night and she's warned me she's making pasta bake and pizza. Pizza is my favourite food of all time so fingers crossed I retain this will power!

I'm suddenly thinking I should bite the bullet and go to group. The reason why I haven't gone so far is because of finances but I'm thinking I could probably manage.

I've been 100% to plan so far and using minimins to keep me motivated, but I'm jealous of those who go to group. I've always been one to prosper on praise and recognition and I think group would help.

I'm worried though, should I pretend I've never done SW before or admit I've been doing it at home based on online research?

Having a great day today so far. Cheeky midweek day off work so decided to start my couch to 10k challenge. Started the morning with a rhubarb muller light and headed straight out (in the drizzle, I might add!). Came back and felt amazing ever since! Have since spent some time with the cat and browsed for recipes on here. Think I will buy the SW magazine later today.

Jacket potato with beans followed by some melon and grapes for lunch. Still can't believe how much my appetite has reduced since starting. My energy levels are off the scale and I just feel so good. Hoping to lose 1-2lbs this week - I've finally realised that slowly but surely is the way to go.

 Worst day at work in a long time thought I was going to cry. But I didn't! And I didn't comfort eat either (big achievement).

Had run out of milk this morning so couldn't have my usual cereal so had a muller light and an apple and waited until lunch to have homemade sausage and bean casserole (yum yum - 3 syns). Tried the cherry bakewell alpen lights and was not impressed!

Had the BEST DINNER YET - chunky steak inside hollowed out jacket potato with mash topping and broccoli. Followed by a fun size twix.

If there's one thing I can't do without it's my chocolate - I'm so pleased I can have it, in moderation of course.

I'm starting to miss bread so I might try a green or red day soon just to see how I feel - will stick to EE as long as possible though as want to "ingrain" it.

Bought the magazine for the first time yesterday - WOW! Looked through the recipe book and can't wait to do next week's shop and try some new things!

Aren't the recipe's great! Minimins has loads too but just seeing the pictures helps!

Good luck in your journey!

Thanks Alice!

I lost 2lbs this week! Really happy with that as I was convincing myself I wouldn't have a loss at all. Just half a pound to go until I've lost half a stone.

I'm still overwhelmed by my experience so far. I've never once felt deprived, I'm still eating all the things I like, I have so much energy and this is officially the longest I've stuck to a diet - and I am so determined! My will power is so strong and I'm genuinely loving Food Optimising.

Friday night is treat night so I bought some of M&S's count on us vanilla ice cream, meringue nests and raspberries and it was the most satisfying dessert I've had in ages - and it was only 7 syns! It's so amazing that I can still have treat night and stick to plan.

I think my fitness is improving which is good. I did 70 squats this morning (OUCH) and I'm well into my couch to 10k. I have been walking to work every morning (about 2 miles) as well.

My OH is fully on board now as well and has his first weigh in on Sunday. It's been a struggle over the years to get him committed to a healthier life style so needless to say I'm very, very pleased that he's doing so well.

well done on your loss!
some of your meals sound good..the steak in jacket potato ...mmm
the egg fried rice..did you make it yourself?

Thank you! Yes I made it myself. It was really easy actually - just threw some boiled rice and petit pois into the frying pan on a medium-high heat, and then added beaten eggs slowly whilst stirring. I also added some cooked prawns! I added soy sauce to taste.

Just did this week's asda shop online to collect tomorrow. I'm looking forward to making the chicken, ham and mushroom pies and chicken tikka masala from the latest magazine.

I've got friends coming for dinner on Tuesday night so I've planned to make SW's chicken lemon and garlic casserole served with SW roasties. Then I just bought in some sorbet for after. I'm a bit nervous because we have eachother over for dinner all the time and we usually do pasta bakes or pizza so hopefully they won't mind something a bit healthier!

I did my measurements today and have skimmed an inch from my waist :) I can't see a physical difference in my appearance yet but I will try to be patient.

OH has his weigh in tomorrow - I'm excited for him. If he loses a lot (which he should as he's been 100% and he is quite overweight) then I think it will give him a big boost.

Oh no! I just realised I accidentally had 17 syns today! I completely forgot about my 4 syn coco pops bar and didn't realise I'd accidentally bought lean instead of extra lean mince for my spag Bol at 2.5 syns! Which means I thought I'd only had 10.5. Will have to be good tomorrow.

My OH lost 9lbs in his first week! I'm so so so proud of him. Most importantly he's really proud of himself so fingers crossed it will keep him motivated. And me!

Today has been good. Had 2 babybels in a wholemeal roll and an apple for breakie (hex a and b), tomato and mushroom omelette with salad for lunch followed by a low fat choc mousse (syn) and then SW chicken tikka masala for dinner with fruit for after.

Went to pick up my asda shop earlier. They managed to sub my tarragon for coriander! Despite the fact I'd already ordered some. So I asked to not take it. What a ridiculous sub. I wonder who decides what people get instead?

Anyway. I now have a fridge full of muller lights, fruit and veg, diet coke, chicken, extra lean beef mince, prawns and the rest. Yummy week ahead.

Thank you both! Good luck on your journey today - I'd love to hear how you get on!

I'm still really undecided about joining group. I feel like I should, then the next minute I think 'nah, I don't need to'. I'm getting on just fine with good losses and a pretty solid understanding of how it all works - plus with minimins I seem to find out all the info I need. However, I have no doubt that once I get over the initial fear, group would be a good option to keep me motivated. There are two on tonight in my local area so I might bite the bullet. I wonder if I should ring the consultant first. Might be nice to give her a heads-up I guess.

Realised this morning that ASDA also subbed my wholemeal rolls for granary so I'm going to have to give those away - they are just not worth the syns! Also have decided that I'm going to try the Weight Watchers yoghurts next shop because the muller lights are getting too expensive and I think they're too big!

Might start a job hunt today - hate hate hate my current role. Time for a change I think.
