New hip - CAN exercise at last !

    Hi, I'm recovering from a hip replacment operation, 3 weeks post-op, and looking at exercise to help me recover and lose weight. Last year I got a fitbug, but at the time wasn't able to get full use of it as osteoarthritis meant every step I took hurt and I was eating painkillers just to live and work.
    Now I want to use it properly! I can walk without pain already. The snag so far - having spent a whole year walking lopsided with pain I now find it almost impossible to straighten-up and walk straight. It's causing low backache.
    I'm doing physiotherapy exercises 3 times per day like I was told... also using a mini-cycle (bottom half of exercise bike, used infront of armchair, so comfortable reclined peddling), and my airwalker. Walking outside whenever I can, but still on crutches so it has to be dry weather. I have a Xtrainer too but that's fully weight-bearing so I'm not allowed to use that yet.
    So far I'm aiming for 3,500 steps per day of which 1,500 should be aerobic. May not sound much to the rest of you, but I was on 500 steps per day.... so for me it's an amazing achievement!!!
    I get to go to 1 crutch in another 3 weeks, for 2-3 weeks, then hopefully I'll be able to walk straight with NO aids.
    I don't really want to have to diet too... hoping if I gradually increase my exercise and eat healthily I can lose weight anyway? What do you think? Will it work?

    hehehe not sure about slow and gentle.... I'm enjoying it so much I think I'm getting a bit carried away.... 6500 steps today and hadn't even realised.... When I can't get out I walk a large circle in the yard... With no watch on to tell how long and brain that fazes out like meditating I enjoyed my 3rd walk this afternoon.... it was only when I got back indoors and saw the clock that I realised I'd just walked 25 minutes solid. Weird ! Amazing ! Soooooo different to how it was before THR.
