Hi my name is Margi and I am new to this forum, wish I had found it a long time ago. I have been fat ever since I can remember, weighing a whopping 12 stone aged 12.

I have tried every diet with great results for a week or two and then the loss stops and you all know how it goes after that.

I had considered having a gastric band fitted, but my doctor told me I needed to lose 6 stone before they would consider me. My answer to that was that if I could lost 6 stone on my own I wouldn't need the gastric band.

I bought a hypnotherapy gastric band in December last year (it was on offer). I saw my therpist in January for the first time and I remember the shock when I tipped the scales at over 29stone! I was at least 2 stone heavier than I thought I was and accused him of having faulty scales. When I left there I went straight to Boots to weigh myself and then it hit me, that I really WAS this fat.

I saw my therapist every 10 days and did lose some weight. Most of all though we were working on changing my eating habits, portion size, and in general cognitive behaviour. I remember whenever I used to get a plate of food thinking to myself "that is never gonna fill me up" now I am at the point where I think "how am I possibily going to eat all that".

I am not on a diet and I eat what I want in moderation, thus not depriving myself and ending up binging.

Anyway the hypnosis worked but not the gastric band part of it. But still its changed my life and my eating habits and I have no problems carrying on just as I have.

Has any of you been down the hypnotherapy route or perhaps just decided to follow a healthy eating plan as opposed to a diet?

My weight loss 9 weeks in is as follows:
    Week 1 -7lbs :D
    Week 2 -3lbs :)
    Week 3 -1lbs :(
    Week 4 -4lbs :D
    Week 5 -2lbs :)
    Week 6 -2lbs :)
    Week 7 +5.5lbs (cocktails never a good idea)
    Week 8 -4lbs :D
    Week 9 (Today) -5lbs :D

1.5 stone lost only 13 more to go!!!

Welcome, welcome, welcome roadmutha. Great to see you've got off to such a fantastic start. I did hypnotherapy a couple of years ago but altho I went off into a trance it didn't make any difference to my eating :( Good that its working for you tho.

Good luck with your weight loss and let us know how you're doing on good and bad days! x

    Hi Judith.
Sorry it didn't work for you. Funny thing is though I was never sure I was in a trance, but obviously something is working.
Thanks for the good wishes :)

    Hi Margi
Great weight loss so far-super work!!. I'm also following a healthy eating plan(having tried everything else)My head is in the right place this time though and determined to stick with it as it will be a long road. I started just a lb short of 20 stone and have just lost my first half stone. when the next half stone will be gone, that'll be my first goal( 5%) so here we go..
Best of luck for the week ahead xxx Looking forward to catching up on here xx

Hi Margi- my weigh in is on Friday! Best of luck for Monday!! For me, it was just i had enough this time. I've put on 8 stone in the last 10 years and since putting on the weight am in total denial about how big I actually am but just after christmas saw myself in a DVD and there was no denying the sheer size of my belly. Last weekend, only barely fitted into an aeroplane seat and the worry about whether I would or not was enough to ruin the trip. So here goes-first half stone gone and heres to the next one !! xx

Hi roadmutha, great job on your weight loss, I too have a lot to lose and am using hypnotherapy cd's and healthy eating, and I can honestly say this is the first time I have ever felt so positive and think I will achieve my goal :)

I have got a gastric band fitted, had it done about 5 or 6 years ago, it did start to work, dropped 3 stone in 2 months, and was just never hungry, half a cup of soup filled me up completely and I thought this was it, but then I had a rejection at the site of the injection port and had to have the port removed - I still have the band in place as it does limit me somewhat - but it took nearly 4 months for the wound to heal - all the docs reckon I'm just a very slow healer, having the band I thought was painful enough, but waiting for the second op site to heal was a killer......I got very low during that time and found out that you can find ways to eat round the band, by finding out what 'treats' would slide through without giving me any problem, so I ruined all the good it could do........even with a band you still need a huge amount of willpower to eat what's right, so my advise to people now is save yourself the trouble and money you still have to rely on your own willpower to make the right choices :)

I think the only way forward on this journey, for me personally, is to just learn to eat healthier and get control of food, because no matter what method I use to lose weight, that is what I am going to have to do to remain thinner, so I might as well learn those skills on the way to getting thinner. I don't want to do another 'diet' only to get to goal weight and then have no idea the right way to eat to maintain it :)

Good luck with the rest of your weightloss, looking forward to following your journey and seeing you succeed :)

Bloody hell Big Girl, you have had some journey!!! But your story is very inspiring and I think you have hit the nail on the head. It has to be a life changing decision. I once heard that DIET stands for Don't Intend Eating That (and the world is full of good intentions :))

Well it seems to me you have the right ideas and we see things similarly, so lets use this place to give each other support or a kick up the jacksie if needed. When is your weigh day? I am keen to see how you get on. Mine is Monday :)

Best of luck to you too!

    Hello

nice to 'meet' you :) i too have a lot of weight to shift, but after countless diets, my head is definately in the right place..and I actually believe that this time I'm going to do it

The first page of my diary lists all the reasons why I'm doing this! I started 5 weeks ago, and the lightbulb moment has finally gone on..and stayed on :D

I am so scared of not being able to fit in the plane seat in october, I would die of embarrassment, so that, and a thousand other reasons are keeping me on track!

I look forward to chatting with you, keep posting!

Hi RainbowRose, nice to meet you, have had the same horrors in the past about airplane seats, I used to ask the stewardess as I got on the plane for an extension, some of them were lovely and would discreetly bring me one, others would walk towards me waving the bright orange thine in the air......and why do they have to be orange???

Good luck I'm sure you'll get there, you've done pretty well so far :)

    Hi RainbowRose
Lightbulb moment indeed, its good to feel so focussed. Good luck!

    Big Girl
Yeah they are all orange, I once had a stewart shouting to the top of the cabin for an extension for row 17, it was so loud and embarrassing.

I dread being given the seats where the arms don't lift up as I don't fit into those. Also some issues with sitting in the middle seat.

I am going to St Petersburg on Good Friday and though I know I will still need an extension, I am hoping that I will be a little bit more comfortable.

    Hi Roadmutha,

Your post really hit a nerve for me as I too remember being age 12 and 12 stone...my age has matched my weight a lot. Do not want to be 31 this year and 31 stone!!!!

I too have thought about sugery and have even referred myself but I want to be able to do it myself. I work within the field of psychological therapies, helping people to think more positively so I kind of feel that I should practice what I preach and use the power of my mind to lose the weight.

I've decided that this is a last ditch attempt before surgery. I am fed up of feeling rubbish about myself and of living a restricted life. I plan on sticking to the Cambridge (sole source) until I am under 20 stone then think about stepping up to the 810 programme to lose the rest. I miss food and eating but the results are going to be so worth it. I have had some limited success with healthy eating. In the past I followed weight watchers and took xenical (which helped increase the losses) but developed an allergy to the drug so stopped. I know slow and steady is probably the best way to lose the weight but I always found that because I have so much to lose that I would get easily frustrated with losing a pound or two every week and it was always this which led me to fall off the wagon. With Cambrige I don't have to make any food choices as there is no food! But I hope to begin a diet with food once my weight loss has been boosted!

I'm trying to set small goals so it doesn't seem like such a massive task ahead. I want to lost 10% then get under 25 stone and my big goal is to get under 20 and go from there!

Good luck on your weight loss journeys. Our start weights are similar so would be good to support each other to goal.

    Hi Kate
    Thanks very much :) x

    Ellie
Indeed we seem to be of similar weight, but you probably carry it better being 4 inches taller :) I must say I admire you for sticking to Cambridge as I know I couldn't go without food, I enjoy eating and its part of my social life. I really couldn't imagine no food whatsoever.

I do know what you mean about having so much to lose and it taking so long, I am thinking of all sorts of shortcuts but that has landed me in trouble in the past too. I have also had Xenical years ago but found that if you don't have a low fat diet along with it I was in terrible agony with stomach cramps, but I might consider it now.

I am also starting to workout tomorrow at the 30 minute Workout for Women. I went by for a look on Friday and I think I can do it, no men and no mirrors. I am aware that the only real way to lose the pounds is to eat less and do more, so I am gonna give it a bash. I am SOOOOO unfit but we'll see how it goes.

    Roll on lunchtime tomorrow :)

Ellie you should let me know which day you weigh yourself so I can keep an eye. Best of luck and keep it up :) x

Well girls I lost a mere pound today and I am quite disappointed. I know a pound is a pound but I have been exceptionally good this week and exercised!!! Hopefully it will be better next week! Hope you all go on better than me :)

    Hi Margi :)

dare I say a pound is a pound etc etc? ;) but it really is, and a lb lighter than you were :)

however, I lost NOTHING this week, zero, zilch, nought!!!!... and can understand the disappointed feeling only too well. I was gutted, really upset, and just like you, exercised more than ever this week, stuck to the same meals that I've been having from the start, and didn't cheat, not once!!!! As I said on my thread, if I had cheated, I'd have been cross, but I would have understood.

I've cleared my head now and am so determined that those scales will move next week.....aaargh!!!!

Good luck, you are losing, it is coming off, now think ahead to next weeks weigh in when you will be grinning :D

    take care :)
