Has anyone been on holiday here?

I'm looking at going on holiday there and i want an area that's nice and quiet. Not anywhere like Wellington but somewhere with a beach etc

Any ideas?

I spent six of the best years of my life in NZ back in 2004.

We hired a big camper van and toured round, mainly in the South Island. I preferred the south - purely a matter of taste but 3/4 of NZ's population lives on the Nth Island and we wanted to experience something completely different ... we went to some pretty remote places!!

For me, Christchurch and the surrounding area was lovely. Fab beaches, laid back people but with a small city feel when you wanted it.

I've heard that the North Island's Bay of Plenty is lovely for beaches and also the East coast (Napier etc).
