I apologise now if anyone reading this is a social worker, not all the same, sorry title ment to say social services not workers but couldnt change it

I have a son who has aspergecs and there is only me looking after him and i have 2 other boys who are 15 and 10, youngest is 6 with aspergecs.

I went to autisic course and now enrolled with them for help over phone if needed, and in the file it said you can request for help from a social worker to get some time for self and other children or direct payments which i was going for not the help from them just the payments.

My youngest goes to after school club on a tuesday and that is his routine now and cos i dont go college no more i have to pay for it which i dont mind, but being on benefits it comes outta that. What i was after was if they could maybe help with another night for them to pay so i can have quality time with my other children as my youngest can take all my time and sometimes not sleep till after 1am or even 4am all depends what he like that day.

So i thought even just grabbing a nice meal out for once just the three of us while ben is in after school club. I do feel horrid as sometimes its easier to let ben get away with things cos if you say no or shout at him he goes mental and its not his fault but sometimes can bully and take it out on his brothers and they do so well with him i feel they deserve a bit more from me.

Sorry just gone on one but its really annoyed me that the social services said i cant have any help because he is in a mainstream school (but he got a statement) which is totally wrong so i gotta type a really long letter that the autisic group told me to and i should not be refused a social worker.

Bit tearful atm cos i dont ask for no help they my kids and i will look after them the best i can, they dont see dad just me and im not asking for much.

sorry for boring you and thanks for reading really appreciate it ;)

I work within child and adult learning disabilities services so can totally relate to where you are coming from hun. Have you not got a community nurse who can help with the social side for your son and yourself? Just a thought, maybe if your SW, GP or CN could referr your son to social activities so that way you wouldnt have to pay? I'm pretty sure that is something that can be done.
I dont know if thats much help hun, sorry if it's not. x

    Awww honey that's terrible :-(

It seems so unfair that parents who need help, like you, cannot get it. It's not just SS either. There are far too many instances where good people suffer and everything is given out to people who don't always deserve it or even appreciate it. My Dad was in a horrific accident at 17 that left him having to learn to walk again. He was told he may never be able to but at 21 he walked from hospital. They said he was able to claim as diabled but he worked until 50 when he was bad with artritis. He was told he wasn't entitled anymore as he never took it years ago. Not the fact he worked and paid taxes.

    Rages you doesn't it?

Get the letter written and sent - you deserve help hun. Chin up xxx

    Hi Jacqui

I can't offer any practical advice, but I just couldn't read and run on this one. Can I just say you sound like a terrific Mum who really and truly cares for her kids. Things sound so difficult, but you seem to be doing an amazing job and one day your kids (all of them) are going to really appreciate that.

OH Hun! My middle grandson has Aspergers (I had to look it up when he was diagnosed) and he's such a handful! My heart goes out to you managing on your own. Is there some sort of support group in your area? It's not as tho you're asking them to foster him is it? It makes me spit! (sorry)
OH has worked all his life until 5 years ago but has never had any benefits cos I'm working.

Thanks judi and all, omg whats really annoying is that i use to be a foster carer for the borough and when i want a bit of help they say no, but never refused my help to have there kids in my care to look after, thats what really got to me grrrr. I wish i could work and get a social life but im his carer so im needed if he kicks off anywhere and cant see employment just letting me go when im needed.

Jacquie I feel for you love, it just isn't fair, maybe if you weren't looking after your family so well and managing then they will turn around and help you, there is something very, very wrong with the system these days and it needs a bl**dly good shake up, because well caring people/mothers like you are being treated so unfairly and it is so WRONG!!!!!!

Sending you hugs love and thinking of you too. X
