Palpitations

Anyone experience these and happily live life just knowing that they are 'part of your life'?

I've been getting them since before Xmas and have had ecg's, 7 day monitor and just had my results from my heart scan which the doctor advises is normal.

I have an appoint today to discuss the full results and what next as my doctor says that people happily live with them, trouble is mine are getting worse, not better and i've tried lowering caffeine (don't drink much alcohol anyway) but as I say they are getting worse and sometimes taking my breath away.

I guess i'm just hoping someone out there has been through this with no medical reasoning (which annoys me, I wanted a reason!!)

Stress can cause them so if you are worrying about them that could actually make them worse. If the doctor is happy there is no medical reason then you could try some relaxation techniques to see if that helps. Hope you feel better soon :)

Thats what a few people have said is the reason why i'm probably getting them.

I had my 1st child in April this year and went back to work in Oct full time so my day's pretty packed full, I get up at 5.30 to get Lo to Nursery and me to work in time and get home at around 5-6 at night. By the time i've fed, bathed and put lo to bed its 7-7.30 and then its tea and bed for me, i'm tired as my son doesn't sleep through and wakes prob on average 3 times a night.

That sounds pretty stressful to me! If they continue to get worse, or don't get any better then I would go back to the doctor again. My recent experience with doctors is that you need to be very insistent if you want something done, i.e. more in-depth tests or seeing a specialist.

Im getting them too and they cant find anything wrong. Ive had ECGs and a 24h tape and everything but it never does it when Im being bladdy recorded

I dont get them very often in the day, its usually at night, they wake me up, I feel like Im gasping for air. It's not sleep apnoea, I know it's my heart cos I can feel my pulse is irregular and it's sometimes as low as 40bpm. They seem to come in groups, Ive not had it for a month or so now, but when it starts its multiple times a night for night after night :(

It is worse if Ive had alcohol I admit, but I try to limit that to no more than once a week.

I have other stuff it could be related to though (hypocalcaemia/kidney/thyroid) so Im gonna have to hassle my GP to check everything next time Im there. :(

Sorry I cant be reassuring that Ive 'learnt to live with it' or anything :( But you're definitely not alone, it is terrifying isnt it.

The one thing I find *sometimes* helps is sleeping sitting up, but only sometimes.

Yes here too - they used to be only at night when I was relaxed but now I get them any time, sometimes just for the sake of it.

It used to be an extra beat sensation but now its a pause at the end.

Like i say, the scan shows nothing medically wrong so perhaps I need to learn to live with them.

I just wanted an answer! ;-)

Been having them years and I'd why I was tested for Anaemia mine is caused by lack of Iron, Folic Acid and Vitamin B12 any one of those can cause them. Xxxx

I had paplitations when my son was first born as a result of broken sleep. Can you not take it in turns with your partner to look after son during the night, that has helped me as I have OCD, clinical depression and autism all influencing anxiety and papitations

Thanks all for your replies.

Hubby and I share the load when he's here at weekends but he works nights a lot so it's hard.

Been to docs, he's offered me a low dose of beta blocker for the discomfort.

Just found this and in case anyone's reading my diagnosis is that i have ventricular ectopic beats, trying to get health insurance is hard but the docs say I'm fine, totally normal!

These are completely normal things to get nearly everyone does but only some notice them! which is strange and can be quite frustrating! They seem to be worse at night in most cases because that's the only time of the day that people are still and quite enough to notice them!!

I get regular palpitations due to a heart condition and have had to cut out caffeine full stop. Even a sip and they start like mad and anymore than a sip and I'm really quite poorly. i would cut your caffeine out completely and it might help. I've even had to stop eating chocolate as that starts them off. Alcohol too is a big no no. Even half a glass of wine gets mine started and then I can't sleep all night because of it so i dont drink at all now.
