Party tonight - need some advice

    I have recently moved to a new town where I know no-one, have no friends and my bf has just dumped me.

    I have been invited to a small party by someone at work. The problem is... it is a cocktail party. I know that she has ordered food for it and of course cocktails are high in alcohol content and fruit juice.

    Also, I am running a half marathon tomorrow. This can go in my favour as a good excuse, but makes me even more unsure about how to go about this.

    I don't want to look like someone who isn't fun by refusing the alcohol or food, equally I don't want to ruin my chances at weigh in this week, or have a hangover for tomorrow!!

    Has anyone got any advice they could give to me about what they think is best? SW tonight or not...

    I honestly don't think anyone will expect you to be drinking alcohol the night before a half marathon. I assume the food will be nibbles rather than a sit-down meal. Seriously, nobody will notice what you do or don't eat.

    Just have fun and make the best choices from what is on offer. Maybe take along some diet tonic or coke or ask the host/ess to whip you up a 'virgin' cocktail.

    Good luck with the marathon! I am in awe.

    I totally agree - go and enjoy yourself but tell them you are running tomorrow and that you daren't drink anything or overindulge - they'll understand.

    Thanks, I think I will drive so I can save on a taxi and steer clear of the alcohol, will take some diet coke just in case.

    I may or may not have a nibble but I will eat before I go to hopefully not go mad :)

    I think it has already been said but go and enjoy yourself, eat before you go so you wont be so tempted and then you have the perfect excuse for not drinking, most of all have fun x

    Def take the diet coke with you, it always makes me relax more when I know there's something at a party I can definitely have, rather than trying to work out quickly in my head the syns for things that I haven't made myself.
