    Hi all,
I was just wondering how you all find different shops compare with clothing sizes - ie which you find generous and which measure up small? I am wondering if we all have similar opinions or if we are vastly different. I recently found an article on the net that seemed to be completely opposite to what I thought and said a few of the ones I found not so generous were meant to be bigger (which made me feel crap!).
So my list from most generous to tightest (of things I currently own!)goes like this:

    Tesco
Peacocks (ok you can see I am being cheapo at the mo!)
    Dorothy perkins
    New Look
    Next
H&M (which in the article had apparently made all they're clothes 2'' bigger or something?? Pah!)

The smallest sized things I own are a pair of 18 cords by some weird brand that I am still wearing at a 14...and worst of all a pair of billabong board shorts I bought years ago as the label says XXL (UK 16) and which are smaller than my pair of size 12 jeans I have as a goal!! The bl**dy cheek of it...to think how upset I got when I bought them and couldn't get them over my knee's when I was a large 16 4 yrs ago....

Not a very comprehensive list as I still won't go in loads of shops (like Topshop or River Island) because I still feel too fat:(
Would love to hear others opinions:D

Hey Maddy, heres my list from most generous to least:

    Peacocks and Bon Marche
    Evans
    Next and Dorothy Perkins
    New Look
    Mark One
    River Island and Primark

Im pleased to say I am now able to buy clothes from River Island and Primark (just got into my size 16 river island jeans on friday night, which were my 'skinny jeans', as i look curvy but slim when they fit properly! I have found River Island to be the least generous, as size 12 tops in New Look fit nicely, but not even a 16 in River Island would fit me!! River Island along with TopShop is the stingiest. I refuse to shop in TopShop on principle since I found out that they deliberately dont put many 14-16s on the shelves, as according to them it "doesnt portray the image we aim for" having large sizes on the shelves- they deliberately keep them back so that you have to ask and its embarrassing!!

I find Evans on the slightly generous side, but MacKays are terrible, I have to buy 2 sizes up with them, how depressing:cry:

This is an interesting thread! My LLC was talking last night about shopping without doubting on our sizes.

    Wallis
    Evans
    Tesco
    M&S
    Next
    Dorothy Perkins
    River Island
H&M (as much as I like their clothes, they have the worst sizing!! I wear their size 20 when in fact I am just fitting into size 16!!! The Big & Beautiful range seems to be more generous than others which is weird!)

I love that fact that Beth Ditto refused to go to some event at Top Shop as they didn't stock clothes that would fit her (think she also had a pop at Kate Moss at the same time!)

I'm glad it's not just me who thinks Primark stuff is on the small side!!!

looking at the lists is fascinating because it shows that it must depend on our shape which means the whole clothes sizing thing is nuts. for me it differs for tops and bottoms

    tops:
    evans
    bon marche
    H&M
    M&S
    Mackays
    Sainsburys

    bottoms:
    evans
    bon marche
    sainsburys
    M&S
    H&M
    Mackays

I haven't tried anywhere else since I am not used to it and have only ever worn evans clothes since I was 15. the bottoms thing also depends on whether they are hip or waisted because there is no chance for most hip styles because of all the loose on my tummy.

it drives me mad because it should be a size is a size is a size and they are based on the same templates. arrrrgh.
