So I finally had a consultation with my doctor today...

regarding weight loss. I have started dieting myself 2 weeks ago, but because I have so much to lose I said i'd look into this pill as a kickstart. She was reluctant because I am waiting for scans for PCOS and she said that they will put me on metaformin anyway and that would help the weightloss, but seeing as my scans arent for another 6 months and she could see I was serious about the weight loss, she prescribed a months trial of xenical 120mg.

She will continue to prescribe after the month on the basis that I lose 6 pounds every 4 weeks. I've lost 3.4 pounds since I've started last week so I think thats do-able.

She didn't give me much information about the tablet although I talked to a pharmacist who took it herself and she went through it with me.

The doctor said that I dont need to be on a specific diet as long as I'm eating healthy and cut out fatty foods completley.

I exercise daily myself so no worries there.

Is there anything else I need to know? :D

Replys would be greatly appreciated :D

Welcome to the xenical forum family =)
You will get to know many of us here everyones great (well some are :p haha just kidding everyone is really.)

I am a little disturbed that your doctor has said you must loose 6lbs a month.. its a high number to keep up with and that puts pressure on you but all i can say is keep it up and just try your best which is all any of us can do..

i've been on them since feb and i wouldnt ever look back now..

xx

Hiya and welcome!

yeah i was quite shocked about that 6lbs tbh! Its a lot of pressure to be under!

If you need anything at all please ask1

luv katie
xx

Good luck hun! :D I must admit the 6lb is a lot of pressure to be put under :( But i suppose it's just one of things that you've got to live with :( Maybe at your next appointment you could suggest that the 6lb rule is liften as it's making you feel under a lot of pressure? xx

Ahhh............Im glad we are 'nice and mushy and welcoming' !!

Wish you all the best with your journey, post lots and nosy around the forum and you will breeze it. Take care x

Hi.
Again I think the 6lbs is alot of pressure. My doctor was brilliant and one month I even put on a lb and she told me not to worry as sometimes our body gets use to xenical before losing again. Im not saying that will happen to you, far from it. It just amazes me how different doctors are.
Good luck and it sounds as if you will do great x

I guess 6lbs seems a lot but i'm happy enough with that goal, I was aiming for about 2lbs a week loss anyway :D

I took 2 of my 3 so far today, one with brekkie, one with lunch. Calculated my fat intake and its less than 15g for each meal so I shouldn't experience too much of the side effects.

:D

I'm so excited about this, YaY

Hi there and welcome to the Xenical forum :D Good luck on your weight loss journey
xx

HI welcome!
Yes i agree 6lb is alot, especially if you maybe have pcos. I have severe pcos and weight loss can be slower, cant believe your doc doesnt understand that??. If you loose the 6lb then thats great, but whatever the number is as long as it is goin down!!
You will find loads of info on here!
Good luck! and good luck with your scans xx

Hello and welcome,

Just a quick question, Are you still on the Metformin ?

Only reason I ask is, i too have PCOS and when I was getting ready for IVF I was on MET, as it can help achive pregnancy by getting the ovaries going, anyhoo, when I was prescribed Xenical, to loose weight before IVF again, I was told to 'Not get Pregnant, whatever you do'.!!! which is obviously not likely to happen any way but i suppose it could!

I'm not on metaformin yet. She said as soon as I get my second set of scans in february then the specialist will prescribe it. I've been waiting a year for scans, its terrible.

I know, It really drags on. I lost a fair bit of weight when I was on MET but the side effects are worse than this. Not in the orangy oily scense but headaches and mood swings!
I would go back on them tho.
Feb is not that far away now.x
