Surviving the Weekend

Hi Everyone,

I always pop past minimins to check syn values and I think the community spirit would be a lovely support to help in my weight loss! Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself and begin by starting a new thread...

I have tried slimming world before and it did work but then life got in the way and hence the diet took a back seat.:sigh: I am getting married in June next year and want to look my best on the big day and so I'm fully motivated this time round! I must admit I do find weekends particularly difficult as we do a lot socialising and spend most of my time out and about shopping, visiting, takeaways etc.

Does anyone have any tips on how they survuve the weekends?

Although people are divided on it, some people save some syns for the weekend. I've never done it but got a boozy one this weekend so have been trying it out. We'll see when I get weighed on Tuesday if it works for me. Otherwise I just try to make sure I have stuff in the fridge if I need it and do EE days if I go out for lunch so I can have a jacket potato or salad. Also if you look at the eating out threads there's some really good stuff on takeaways etc. To be honest I haven't had too much problem with it on weekends just as long as you plan ahead. Often if you know where you're going you can check out menus ahead of time so you're not left worrying about it when you get there. I think the secret to eating the SW way is to plan ahead and that includes eating out. Takes a bit of effort but it gets easier the more you do it. Good luck.

I agree, planning is key! I've tried saving Syns for the weekend some weeks and having the same amount each day on others and have had consistent results. Experiment and see what works for you.

I also try to keep myself occupied and fill up the whole weekend because boredom eating is one of my biggest problems. I'm only stopping now to check minimins as I'm waiting for my nails to dry!

I have similar weekends to you and although this is my first week on SW i have found in the past that being extra good during the week which means a few extra syns for weekend or (points) as it was when i was doing WW'ers! Also make up a huge fruit salad and take some with you in plastic box if need be so u can fill up on these and as was said above choose the healthiest options i.e. omlette's, JP, Salads etc

Thing to do is remember why you NEED to stay on Track i.e. in your case your wedding. In mine its because i'm sick of feeling fat and frumpy and not being able to get clothes to sit comfortably on me with out me tugging it in different directions to hide my fat!

You can fit this diet around your social life you just need a few tweeks here and there ;o)

Best of luck x

The best tip i can give is to PLAN ahead! Allow your self a few extra syns (so stick to 8 syns a day through the week, I tend not to go higher that 7). If i want alcohol, i can't stick to one glass :p so i sometimes put my non alcoholic drinks in a wine glass to trick myself :p

I know how you feel. I'm in work at the moment and dying for a glass of wine when I finish at 8. I know however it won't stay just the one glass. I did have a bottle on weigh-in day on Wednesday and haven't had many syns since. This is my down-fall big time

Yeah same! In group last week some one bought in a bottle of wine that was only 6.5 syns for a large glass, i cant think what its called but ill tell you on monday after weigh in!

You really have to plan. Keep lots of fruit around, lots of low syn snacks (the Low Syn Snacks book should never leave your side, if you ask me) and you can, of course, build in treats to the diet anyway, you'll be surprised how far they'll stretch!

Have to agree with everyone else, planning is the key. Save your syns if you have to but a lot of the time you can get away with not, there are plenty of choices with takeaways and eating out which are within you syn allowance

How good am I? I was desperate for a glass of wine and resisted the urge to buy a bottle - So chuffed with myself. Did have a bit more cheese than I should have though. (Whats more fattening cheese or wine). I just hope I can resist the urge tonight as well

Saw some small bottles of wine in Asda today which were 4 for a fiver - 187 mls which is almost 7 syns and thought that they would be better than opening a bottle and be tempted to drink it all - but leave the other 3 unopened though.
