Syns?? Im confused!

    Hi everyone!;)

    Can somebody explain to me please about why eating syns on this plan is so important?? I feel I should know this but I dont!:eek:
    Also, how should we calculate how many we are allowed? My consultant tells everyone they are allowed up to 15 a day and im sure this is fine but I need clarification!

    15 is the max at the start.... you may wish to reduce the amount to 10 /12.. but this reduction is better done when you get near to target, some even reduce to 5 (OMG)!!!

    You can save you syns from each day to use at the weekend or for that day out etc. Some people have 105 for week and deduct each day as they go, some add up as they go. The choice is all yours, but you should have syns this is part of the plan and it helps you to enjoy what you eat.

    Gosh! I hope no-one does have 225 in a week - that is 32 a day lol!

    Syns are important firstly because your body needs fats and sugars. It only needs a few, but it does need some to work efficiently. Secondly, the quickest way to give up a diet is to feel deprived - syns should go some way (a long way) to helping that not happen.

    SW states that you should aim for between 5 and 15 syns a day. At target, I still use 5-15 a day, this has never changed for me. There is no official literature (that I have seen) that states you have to reduce your syns as you get nearer to target. It can be useful to reduce syns occasionally to get past a sticky plateau (so therefore you need some now to be able to cut back later!) but only for a short period.

    Of course, if you would rather count weekly, have between 35 and 105 a week.

    Thanks Phil, I just feel like iv never had it explained to me!
    Oh and thanks Angie! I would have had a field day on 32 a day,lol.
    HOWEVER...iv been on plan 6 weeks and couldnt quite get on with the idea of still being able to eat "bad" food (its messed up the way we think about food :mad:- thankfully im getting over this!) So have been one of these people that has only been allowing myself 5syns(except for one day a week) and tbh I dont particulary find this hard, now im worried if I exceed this it will slow my losses?? Im up for giving it ago though....im wondering if anyone else has had this??

    I remember one woman who had good losses in my old class a good few years ago. She always had problems with the concepts of syns and being allowed treats. What she decided to do was have two specific things every day (I think it was something like a kit-kat and a packet of Discos) and they became part of her 'plan' and then she eventually got passed thinking of the syns being bad things (dont know if that makes sense, but it worked for her and her weightloss was fantastic)

    I think we all have habits or ways of thinking, especially the classic we must be deprived to lose weight. Don't worry about increasing your syns from the 5, make sure you have lots of Super Free foods in your diet and it seems to balance out :)

    I usually have no more than 10 per day... this is plenty for me at the mo. But is nice to know that if I wanted I have a few spare

    How many syns do you have on the seventh day I wonder? It might be that you would prefer to count weekly rather than daily, and it could be that you are already successfully having 35+ syns a week.

    Personally, I count daily. I like a little bit of what I fancy .. but often :eek: I also tend to drink, rather than eat, my syns. If I saved up, I would end up binging (even if it was only once a week, although once a week would become twice a week .. would become ..bla bla), I feel that I have chosen the approach that suits me best.

    If at all possible, use your time with SW to 'retrain' your ideas about 'good' and 'bad' food. I try to think of it as 'normal food' and 'occasional treat food' - my thinking is that if I allow myself my treats, I am far less likely to think I have failed just because I ate a pizza. Eating pizza (occasionally) does not make me bad.

    Even if your losses do slow a little, you will still get there.
