It was reading something that Avisk had posted in the recipe section that reminded me of this.

My ex and I got engaged in St. Helier, Jersey. I was just 17 years old. He was 20 years old. Our parents had trusted us and in those days we would never have shared a room or behaved "inappropriately"It was a great adventure, we flew on a tiny plane , 36 seater, and took off across a grassy field barely missing the local gas works.

Unbeknown to me an even more exciting drama was being played out in St. Helier on that day the 03rd of June 1960. My future second husband was being born.

I stayed married to my ex for 20 years and after our divorce I came to live here in Spain. A year later I met Paul. We married 10 months after.

It was meant to be. They say as God makes them he matches them.

Despite the age difference we have enjoyed 25 fantastic years together and the bonus....................... I have managed to age him so much he now looks the same age as me lol !!!!! Or has he rejuvenated me........who know, who cares, not me. I only know I would not change him for anything.....

Me and OH first met in a carpark, i very much remember thinking i didnt like him not one bit and that he was a grumpy sod (must have been a bad day, cos he'd the least grumpy person you could meet.. slightly too relaxed sometimes lol) .. little did i know 3 years later id be marrying him and be in our own home a stones throw away from that very carpark.

That's such a lovely story, you couldn't make it up!

I met my OH at playschool, weirdly. I remember one time we all had our faces painted, and he wouldn't let me play on the climbing frame because he and his friends were all teenage mutant ninja turtles, and I wasn't :( I'm pretty sure we both also dressed up as Santa and Mrs Claus for one Christmas concert...

We lived literally round the corner from each other for 18 years, but didn't get together until we were in our final years at university, 122 miles apart!

Great story! When you flew to St Helier in 1960, where was this grassy field you flew from?

Gosh, Jersey must have been a bit different in those days! No waterfront land reclamation and development, no tunnel under Fort Regent, none of the rubbish that they built on top of Fort Regent, possibly the big chimney at La Collette wasn't there then either.

This year they have built a huge and hideous incinerator near the chimney. Most of the island is lovely, but that bit definitely is not!

The field was where Castle Donington Airport, Derby is now and as we lived in Cheshire it was quite a way to drive in those days. A real adventure.

I am sure Jersey must have changed a lot. Where hasn't.

Paul would love to go back and visit even though he only lived there until he was three and then spent many years in Rhodesia.

Another lovely story Sue!

I was with my ex for about 2 years when we finished school - I picked a uni in Wales as it was his first choice, but he failed his A Levels and didn't get in. So he stayed home (on the Isle of Wight) while I moved away to Wales. We stayed together for about 6months but it just wasn't working. I think the distance made us realise that we weren't actually in love anymore.
So we broke up and a week later I met my now hubby in the uni I was supposed to be going to with my ex!!

It's funny how things work out isn't it... !

how lovely your stories of love are. maybe fate does play a part after all. time for a poem of love i think

Love is the greatest feeling,
Love is like a play,
Love is what I feel for you,
Each and every day,
Love is like a smile,
Love is like a song,
Love is a great emotion,
That keeps us going strong,
I love you with my heart,
My body and my soul,
I love the way I keep loving,
Like a love I can't control,
So remember when your eyes meet mine,
I love you with all my heart,
And I have poured my entire soul into you,
Right from the very start.

Reminds me of me and my ex! We got together when we were 18, both working at the same nightclub. I knew of his family, but didn't realise how much! When we were born, our families lived next door to each other. My brother used to play with his sister, and when we moved abroad, my mum used to send his mum pictures of me and my brother! Was rather strange when they were produced one Sunday afternoon! His mum was also one of the first people to see my parents new house in this country, and his mum even brought him round to see it, both of us babies, sat next to each other! His sisters also used to talk to my great aunt, who lived round the corner! Small world..
