Any idea what kinda of rate of loss to expect? ideally from first hand experience and not from "because the internet says so" lol

I know that weight loss tends to be less dramatic for people who who are not initially obese, and would like to hear other's experiences so i know what to expect and im not discouraged. I am aiming to eat no more than 1200 calories per day ^^

At the start of July i started cutting down portion sizes and i roughly lost about 3lb on average but it could have been up to 4lb if i did exercise (workout dvds 3 times a week). Although there were some weeks when I stayed the same but I never gained.
I maintained for a few months and then started eating a low GL diet from last week and lost 3.4lbs this week without doing any exercise.
I think its reasonable to lose 2-3lbs if you don't make any slips, but it may slow down when you get closer to goal .:D

I've been told to aim for 700 gr per week which must be about 1.5lbs? Apparently it's better to go slowly.

I lost 4lbs last week but when trying before I averaged 1-2lbs a week. I'm trying to eat in a way I enjoy ans can sustain rather than diet for a set period of time. Im being more strict on myself than if I was at goal though.
Exercise does help but don't forget if you gain muscle you may put on a little weight but be physically smaller.

Is it possible to lose only 1.5lbs a week if you are trying to lose weight? my body fluctuates by 3lb from morning to night anyway :S

Well, it must be as I started on 10th November and I've lost 7KGS to date. I was also told to weigh myself once a week so as not to get obsessed with the scales.

yes it is, what you are experiencing is short term water fluctuation level which is different to loss of fat. Its normal to experience daily change but most is due to water, though fortunately for you, men do tend to loose weight a lot quicker!
Because I am a girl and have a starting weight of 11stone i am going to wait a month before weighing myself again because I know weight loss will be slow and I need to see results to remain motivated. I also don't want to find myself measuring water fluctuation.

I think it's normal to expect at least 2lb loss/week... at least then if you lose more, it's a bonus!

yep, i'm not expecting too much, If I'm loosing then thats the main thing basically, too many times i have expected too much and then given up when my unrealistic expectations were not fufilled. Seeing as my day calorific needs arent very high it means it going to take time to loose the weight.

in reality hun you only want to loose around 1lb a week (i know that seems slow) but from lookin at your bmi its almost in the healthy range, so slowly does it...the slower the better ;)

this was kinda what i was expecting tbh, I'm not heavily built so actually i still looked pretty big at 10stone. I am definitely a 5"5 girl who should be aiming at the lower end of the healthy bmi range. I used to be 9.3 stone and i looked just fine then. Thats the sort of weight loss i am aiming at. I would love to get to 9 stone, but if I stop at 9.7 I can deal with that.
My body fat percentage is currently 32.5, kinda depressing -_-

I don't even want to contemplate how unfit i am. I haven't done any excercise since I was 16 and it stopped being compulsary at school. I walk every where because none of my family drive but tbh I think that has little effect on my health because I have always done it. A few years ago i tried to do some aerobic excercise using a video and some jogging. I ended up with such servere cramp to my calf muscles and inner thighs that i was finding it hard to walk for a week after, and the regime literally went to pot for that reason. I wonder if there is something actually wrong with me, i mean i didnt expect physical activity to be pleasant but i didnt expect to be in such pain either o_O

This has happened to me practically every time I get back to using exercise videos/DVDs. Don't worry, there's nothing wrong with you on that front.

I think a big thing to remember is that if you are unfit, you have to build up your fitness slowly. Start by watching the video/DVD through once. Then try it out. Don't force yourself to do it hard because you don't know the moves. I would aim to do the DVD 8-10 times before you really go for it.

I am a big fan of aerobics DVDs as they are so convenient and private.

I have 2 very good ones which I can send you a copy of if you like?
One is the Natalie Cassidy one which is hard but fun - I still havent done it properly all the way through lol!
The other is the new Claire from Steps one which i think is fab because it feels quite low impact.

The other thing to remember is to always do as much of the warm up and cool down as you can to help avoid sore calves... Also, don't be afraid to pause it and get a drink if you need to.

Fitness can be a slow proccess to begin with and whatever exercise you might chose to do you must remember to take it slowly and never overdo it otherwise you end up in pain and unable to walk for days lol!

    I hope this helps!

    :D
