Tinned or fresh tomatoes in soup?

I've only ever made SW free tomato soup using fresh tomatoes, but notice lots of other people use tinned. Is one option better than the other in terms of taste etc? Has anyone tried both ways?

Answers & opinions greatly appreciated.

Most of the year it's ok to use tinned tomatoes but when in season you can't beat the taste of fresh, home grown tomatoes!
I only use chopped tomatoes as I find that the tinned whole ones you have to remove so much of the tomato stem & centre core on some makes, The Poundland shop near us is doing 12 tins for £3-00 and they are very nice I have had them on toast as well as in two recipes!............

I prefer fresh ones but tinned ones are fine if I just want somethign quick. If Im making something nice I'll roast halved tomatoes in Fry Light and seasoning for half an hour, yum yum

But only worth it if the tomatoes are decent quality and theres nothing wrong with tinned ones for something quick :)
