Turkey mince

    Anyone know if turkey mince needs to be syn'd?
    It doesnt say lean on it. Looking on sw website i can only find lean turkey mince.

    There has been some discussion on turkey mince recently.

    You need to read the label and check the fat content. There are huge differences between different brands - between 0.8% and 9.9% in the ones I looked at. You really need to keep it below 5% if possible.

    Oh my thanks i will look at it tommorow when i can be arsed to move lol.
    I did do a search but clearly i did it wrong lol.

    If you find it's not a lean mince, then do what I always do with any mince (mostly because I can't stand the taste of meat fat!):

    Dry fry the mince on it's own in a pan until it is cooked, then drain it through a large sieve and rinse under hot water. You'll get rid of most of the fat that way! It's interesting to see just how much fat comes out of mince... :jelous:

    Then just add back to the pan with fry light and voila - syn fee mince!

    Just remember not to sieve it down the sink, or else you'll end up with blocked drains!
