Technically, we can't have any diet drinks. Officially, we can't have any diet drinks.

A few of us get away with the occasional sneaky Coke Zero and Dr Pepper Zero because they don't contain citric acid. Citric acid interferes with ketosis, meaning you may get mega hungry if you indulge.

That means most diet drinks are off limits even unofficially because nearly all of them contain citric acid.

Have you tried the water flavourings? I quite like both of them. You can add them to fizzy water for the diet pop effect.

Incidentally, half a teaspoon of sunshine orange water flavouring in a vanilla shake makes it taste a bit like cheesecake. Makes a very nice mousse (although again, officially you aren't supposed to have water flavouring and mix-a-mousse on the same day - http://www.minimins.com/cambridge-d...-water-flavourings-mousse-mix-quantities.html. Killjoys. :D).

My mum lost 5 stone on this diet and everyday she had two cans of pepsi max and it never affected her weight loss.
I limit myself to two cans of coke zero a day and again it's not affected my weight loss. Also i put no added sugar squash in my water. Its really up to you, it's not going to kill you. Try a week of having a fizzy drink and see if your loss is affected.

Yep, folks can and do tweak the diet. The danger isn't so much about affecting losses or even about staying in ketosis - it's about it triggering off hunger pangs that might make you crash off the wagon.

It's also about the fact that some people can't cope with the idea that they've 'cheated'. Having just one thing - even diet coke - that isn't supposed to be on the plan may be enough to trigger off the whole, "Damn, I've blown it!" mentality in some people. Dieting is as much about mind games as it is about the stuff you put in your mouth...

Best not to tweak unless you're absolutely sure you can live with the possible consequences. I try to be quite careful about stating the rules - because they are there for a reason. Hope you don't mind me clarifying, Starr - cos I know lots of people who 'get away' with tweaks too. Including me. :)

I'm just doing the belt n' braces stuff for the newbies. :D

I started having the free crinkle 2 weeks ago but this week had a few to many and I've not had a great loss so it's plain water and cd flavour for me this week, not having bars or diets drinks back to basics x
