What do you use you syns on?

Firstly....Sorry if this in the wrong place but i've checked the sub headings and imo none of them seem fit so i'm doing it here.

In my forever search of the 'perfect' week except week one i'm trying a few different approaches this week.

My first thing i've introduced is to drink more water and secondly to vary my healthy extras.

I was really hoping i'd have a good week and the demons in my head are already telling me i'm not going to have one.

Its got me thinking about my syns and how I use them, I am a frequent flexible syn user and for example tonight, I am having a bottle of wine.

I try to stick to about 70 syns a week and so after tonight I will be left with 20 syns until wed's which is easy as I won't drink after tonight.

What i'm wondering is has anyone done flexible syns often and then switched to daily and seen a better result? Perhaps i've missed something and i'm not meant to do what i'm doing every week??

Any replies greatly received, as always.

Hi lucylu79, I swap and change, I'm having wine tonight too but ive only had about 20 syns this week so far, a big chunk of mine are used for salad dressings and Mayo, I don't mind having salads for lunch but I need something a bit naughty on it. I don't know it works different on different people, it's hard, but I'm sure u will do amazing x

I never use weekly syns. I have mine daily- between 8 and 12 usually. I spend them on chocolate, biscuits, cake bars and snack a jacks.

Weekly syns isn't the same thing as flexible syns which are used VERY rarely (for special events) and don't guarantee a loss.

I use mine weekly because I like to have a few vodka and diet cokes at the weekend! I've lost a stone and a half that way before so it can work that way.

I use my syns on salad dressings, sauces and then funsize chocolate bars (which I freeze) and quavers - I like to keep my cravings at bay by giving myself a little bit of what I want!! I take X amount off my weekly syns for booze and then use the rest as I please. Means I can have good and bad days and be able to syn them xx

Hmmm, perhaps I don't know what i'm doing after all :confused:

Is it like this then:

Flexible syns are used rarely and perhaps say for a special occasion whereby you know your going to have more than 5-15 a day and you just accept that and continue the next day without cutting back and you haven't therefore saved your syns for that occasion also?

So, for example if you were to read my food diary for the week it would say that I allow myself 10 syns a per, ie 70 per week:

Day 1 - 5 syns, Day 2 - 5, Day 3 - 5, Day 4 - 30, Day 5 - 5, Day 6 - 5, Day 7 - 5.

So actually I only had 60 that week.

My Question is though:

A. What am I actually doing? Is it called Weekly syns or something?

B. Is this not asvised on a regular basis?

Girls, I'd love your help as i'm really serious about losing weight this time and if i'm holding myself back because i'm doing something that all along I believed to be ok them please correct me!!! :sigh:

SW advise you have between 5-15 syns a day. Flexible syns is where you decide you're going to need more, say 50 for example-so you go out on the saturday and you track your 50 syns but the rest of the week, either side of the flexible day is normal. You aren't likely to lose by doing that, but it's all about staying in control!
What you appear to be doing is a form of weekly syns, however this isn't encouraged by SW as it can lead to binging(be it eating or drinking)
Some people find it works for them-as everyone is different-you just have to find what works best for your lifestyle :)

From what I understand hun, this way of doing it is completely fine, and syns can be used weekly or daily, whatever works best for you.

You have almost described flexible syns right, except to core thing is that you set your self an upper limit for the day/night and stick to it (say 150?!), you don't just have a free for all blowout, straight back to it as normal the next day and accept that you may gain that week.

I think perhaps next week I'm going to try to do more 5-15 a day and not go over them in any one day and just see if it makes a difference to my weight loss (if any)

I can totally see the logic in the bingeing (sp?) element as technically that is what i'm kinda doing.....Some weeks I'll have no syns for 5 days and blow them all in 2 days.

I often do this and see losses of perhaps 0.5-1 but then one week i'll put on 1-2 and then be back to square one.

Thanks for all the help, I love my class but all these things don't get discussed, we'd be there all day!

Thanks so much, thats what I was kinda thinking, I'm going to buy a countdown this week and set myself a 6 week challenge of one red/green/EE week and always write a food diary and so I can see which plan suites me best.

This week is my water challenge, I'm not very good at drinking it I have to say so I set myself a target to drink 3 pints on the first day increasing a glass each day, its been easy so far and i'm finding that I ask for water before a hot drink now.

I'm not expecting a loss this week as i'm using all my syns on cough mixture and my treat last night but this water thing is a new addition to stay!

No probs!

I'm horrendous at drinking water. I stat a challenge and it normally lasts 2 or 3 days before I forget!!

It seems easier when im at work for some reason?!

Good luck anyway, and do share with us all any hints and tips and what works best for you xx

I always saved mine up for a treat and lost 3lb every week, but then i tried using them daily and i sneakily eat more snacks because i say to myself ' oh iv got all my syns ' bit i go overboars and since then i have either gained or lost only 0.5lbs so last week i went back to having my treat on weigh in day and i lost 2.5lbs :) so that works best for me .

i use mine weekly not daily, i like a drink on a weekend and i like to have a treat night after ive been weighed, i dont have like a take away or anything but i might have wine and chocolate and not worry about it, dont stress about it though, u will find what works best for u and thats why SW is so good because its so flexible! good luck, sure u dont need it :) but yeah let us know when you do find what works best for u!

I'm not sure what to do next week, I have my brother and partner home for 10 days from the US and I'll be spending the fri night with them. I know its gonna mean a bottle of wine, or at the very least some vodka and d.coke.

I really wanted to try a different approach to the syns, I guess I either do it another week or really stick to the 15 syns on that day!!

Just be open minded, slimming world is so flexible and thats the reason its so amazing!

If you use more syns so what, its a special occasion and then you get back on it, I wouldnt worry about it too much, enjoy having your family home, have a good time. Just because your on a diet doesnt mean you have to stop having a life, you will find out what suits you and teh best way fir you to use your syns. x

I'm on day 4 of restarting SW (after a few years of first joining) and I knew on Saturday night I was going to be sharing a chinese takeaway with my parents.
I saved all my syns on Saturday and 14 yesterday and figured that 29 syns would be more than enough to cover what I ate, as I found it impossible to work out the syns for all the different things I had a bit of, if that makes sense?

I didn't miss the syns over the weekend and so far today I haven't had any either, as I've been bulking up on free and superfree foods. I am however going to treat myself to my first bag of crisps (my absolute weakness!!) since Thursday later tonight and i'm really looking forward to that, as sad as it sounds!:eek: Then maybe a highlights hot choc at bedtime!
