What weight would I have to be to get to a comfortable size 18?

    Comfortable size 16?

I know clothes vary depending where you buy them from but want to wear a size 16/18 for my holiday but as a 20/22 at the moment wanted an idea of whether it was reachable?

Hi not lar croft, I am currently a comfortable 18 and I am at the lower end of the 15's. When I did SW last year, I got down to a comfortable 16 and was in the high 12's.

Everyone is different though. It also depends on your body shape. Im not hippy, or busty, just more or less straight down, lol. My shoulders are a bit on the wide side though.

    Good luck xx

I think if you get to 14.7 - 15 stone you would be a comfy 16/18

I am currently bobbing around 14 stone and get in most 16s easy. Some 14's!!

I think it depends on your height. I am only 5'3"

I weigh 12 stones 13 lbs and am still in an 18 and that is a bit of a squeeze with some trousers.

I am longing to be in a 16.

    Good luck !!!

Whereas I'm only half an inch taller than fillymum yet weigh 15lb more (dead on 14 stone) and comfortably fit an 18 and can squeeze into size 16 too.

It's different from person to person I'm afraid.

AND, just to confuse you even more, sizes are different from shop to shop.

I have found Marks & Spencer, Next and Dorothy Perkins are all 'big' for the size (I think they use a 'vanity size' tactic to make us feel good there so we buy more clothes from them!).

Whenever I was inbetween sizes I would get my jeans from Next even though I couldn't have fit in the same size in River Island.

I'm an inch shorter than you and 3lb lighter and 16s are big but 14s r too small!! how very odd, also my friend a couple of weeks ago was 2lb heavier than me and 2 inches taller and still an 18, as she has thin arms and legs and carries weight around her middle whereas mine is fairly evenly distributed!!

The only shops I really struggle with sizes are Primark and H&M

Yup, all down to body shape. I'm 5' 2", weighing around 12 stone 5 and I have trousers ranging from 14-16. 18s are a little bit big now, generally speaking I'm a 16 in bottoms, unless it's New Look, then I'm a 14. In tops, I've got a large chest (apparently!) so some tops are 12, some 14 and some 16! I can't see me ever being smaller than a 14 on the bottom, I have a large skeleton! :D

I carry most of my excess weight around my thighs and bottom. Even when I was 8 stones 10 pounds I think my bum weighed 8 stones lol !! My shoulders are quite small and my boobs slightly larger than they should be, but hey I am getting there and have to go down a size in the next four weeks as I have bought the most amazing jacket for an antiques fair that needs dressed up clothes.

I wonder do your activities i.e. sports etc. make a difference. For most of my life, from being quite a tiny child my 2 main sports have been swimming and horse riding and at the height of my *riding life * I was riding several horses a day.

    Hi Not_lar_croft,

I think it's just too variable for you to be able to compare your weight and height with others to see what you are likely to be. However as a general rule of thumb for me, I have gone down roughly a size per stone. So nearly 5 stone down, nearly 5 sizes down. Probably go down just under a size on the top for each stone though because I am a bit top heavy.

Good luck. Hope you manage your goal.

:eek: Really? **wimpers" I so wish.

Well yes, really I guess. How tall are you?

I'm now 17st 7lb (5 foot 6-7") and comfortable in a 22 - occasionally a 20 - but then I am busty and have a nasty baby belly so have to get sizes to fit over the tum and boobs. Even when I was "normal" I was a 12 on lower half and a 16 on top.
