Your thoughts welcomed..

#1
Hello everyone, after reading of tons of posts on here, i am so inspired. I cannot wait to get going, my start date is Sept 28th, so have just over a week to prepare myself.

Wondered if you had any thoughts for me?

I am a widow with a fab, 12 year daughter.. I have, now after many years of grieving, picked myself up.. I have lost confidence, but on the other hand, am so looking forward to getting going on this diet!

But...a big but...My worst fear, is not enjoying our meal times together. I always class our meal times, as special times, both of us, we are so wrapped up in each other.. its just me and my daughter, she is very excited that I am doing this for myself, and the thought of sitting at the table, drinking a shake or eating a soup, while she eats, worries me so much!
Any suggestions?

Hi Denise. I am sorry for your loss :( But glad ou are now on the mend. :) <hugs>

Don't worry too much - after the first few weeks you should find it quite easy to sit at the table with your daughter. You just get used to it, and it really is much easier then one might think!! Its just hardest as you are getting embedded in the routine.

Maybe for the first few weeks you could do a no-no and eat in the lounge with films on or something like that - so you are not face to face?

I am sure you will find a way that works and can keep enjoying your special time.

All good luck to you - you will find that confidence restored before you know it!! :)

xx

Hi Kitten

I think that the first few times will be hard for you or maybe even the first week. Your motivation seems to be high, so I am sure you two can still sit and enjoy each others company even though you are not eating food.
It is hard I did go out to dinner a few times with friends and will never say it was easy but it gets better.

Good luck with your start. And welcome to Minimins.

I guess the scary part, is how my daughter will deal with it, this is usually such a nice time for us...

I dont want her to feel uneasy about enjoying her own nice meal...does that make sense??...she is so caring and considerate, and she worries about me so much... i am also afraid she may not want to eat?..

I think its sweet that she is excited for yo and would worry about you. Maybe you can put her mind at rest just telling her not to feel bad - and that its only temporary. There is no reason that can't still be a nice time together - it iwll just be different for a temporary time.

I am sure she will adjust. :)

I am starting a couple of days after you and last night I took my eldest son (5) out to dinner has he started school a month ago and I feel I don't get much time with him. We had a lovely time and I was thinking its sad I wont be able to it again for a while, then I thought well it only a little while, you will be going to eat together again and its not as long as you think.

Maybe you should both think of something you can do together instead, like card making or going walks, after her dinner you could take a 30 minute walk and just chat together. I have asked my boys what a special thing they would like to do each week and we have opted for going a walk every night in the woods or by the sea. It can be really exciting starting a new hobbie and who better than to spend it with you daughter. Also think of the fun you will both have going shopping once you have lost all your weight. Ask her what she would like to do instead of eating together every night.

You will do great keep us posting on how you get on!

Yes, i think this is a fab idea... we are so near the coast, so i am going to suggest this, or ask her to suggest something?...
Many thanks
