Sarah's Pregnancy/Breastfeeding & Everything Else Food Diary - F&H

Hello Everyone,

My first ever food diary :) I'm Sarah, 28 years old.
First of all I'm 28 weeks 3 Days pregnant with an amazing little baby girl growing inside me. This is my first child and me and my husband are so excited. I know I shouldn't diet while pregnant but I have a reason....
Both my brothers and my mum have type 1 diabetes. I've been tested a few times in the past and have always tested negative. Anyway I was tested for gestational diabetes last week and I have it. It is basically diabetes that remains with me for my pregnancy and then disappears, baby shouldn't be effected. So I have to watch my diet for the remainder of my pregnancy. They suggested slimming world to me but I've never got on well with that plan so thought I'd give 'Weight Watchers Filling & Healthy' a go. I need to follow a plan, I'm not one of those people who can just eat healthy.

I plan on doing Filling and Healthy days so I can fill up on healthy fruit, veg, meat etc and keep everything natural. Then I have my 49 weeklies (or 2 treats). I won't be depriving my body as there is no limitation on calories. I will listen to my body and eat when I need to. While cutting out many sugars etc by eating a more healthy range of food.

NHS recommend an extra 300 calories per day in the 3rd trimester for baby. Which is about 7pp. I have set my weight watchers app to breast feeding, which is an extra 7pp. So if I need to do a pp day then I will be eating enough calories.

Height - 5ft9
Starting Weight - 211lbs
BMI - 31.16 (28 weeks pregnant)

Aim
1. A healthy baby & a healthy mum. Gestational diabetes isn't something to be ignored
2. In the 3rd trimester a 1lb per week gain is normal. I have gained a bit more weight than I should due to GD but the midwife said a 1/2lb gain would be a better aim for the next 12 weeks.
3. I plan to breastfeed so I will continue to follow ww while breast feeding. I'm not too bothered about jumping straight into it full force as I want to enjoy being a mummy but I want to stay healthy. Once I'm ready to get serious my aim is 11 stone which is a comfy weight I always was until about 2 years ago.
4. Walk to work everyday if possible :)

I plan for this to be more of a photo diary. I will track my food on the ww app. Today I go shopping. I've just had porridge and berries. I am making a curry in slow cooker for tonight. I am mindful of the plan but my official real start date is tomorrow. Weigh in day is Sunday :)

Welcome Sarah (and Little Miss Bump!), I'm here to subscribe and follow your journey. F&H sounds like a fab idea and even better so that u are going to listen to your body, that's so important, what works for one, doesn't always work for another! Good. Luck and I have a diary called 'If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail' if you would like any advice or to subscribe. X

Day 1
Gestation - 28 weeks 3 Days

I start filling and healthy tomorrow, as we are doing a big shop and I want to be prepared. I thought I'd add today's food to my app as a pp day. I can have 35pp per day, I'm not adding the extra pp for being pregnant as I only plan on having this one pp day while I prepare. Looking forward to starting for real tomorrow :)

Breakfast
2 x Bacon - Fat trimmed 2pp
1 x Large Wholemeal roll 6pp
1 Tbsp Ketchup 0pp

Lunch
Gregg's Tuna Crunch Bloomer 11pp

Dinner
Chicken Curry made with lots of veg 9pp
Served with Broccoli 0pp
Mini Garlic Coriander naan 5pp
1 mini onion bhaji 2pp
No rice :)

Snacks
Banana, Milk for drinks 2pp, Apple, Tangerine

= 2 weeklies used
47 remain for the next 6 days

Unsure about the milk for cups of tea/coffee. Tomorrow it won't be a problem as I'll be doing Filling&Healthy and using skimmed. But I have had 4 hot drinks today and 1 planned for later using semi skimmed. I guessed at 2pp.

So although tomorrow is my first day, today ended up being my first day :)

I think 2pp for milk today sounds fine, did u enjoy the last of the semi skimmed? Your menu looks fab today, if that's a taste of what's to come, you're gonna do great! X

Well the hubby said he isn't going to drink skimmed lol!! So I have my own in the fridge, I can use it in porridge as well so it won't be wasted.

Well today's menu was just a work with what I have but tomorrow's is super yummy and healthy. I already tracked it in my app. I just have to stick to it.....but I'm determined. No better motivation than my daughter in my belly needing a healthy mum to finish growing her :)

Just made it into the house before it started to Hail stone. Yes HAIL in June.

I have a little routine now. Get in. Lay on bed. Pull top up. Watch belly. Lol
My baby loves to wiggle around after work when I lay down, it's clockwork. So I don't deprive her. I love it :)

Can I have some advice. I was thinking whether to have the same lunch again tomorrow as I made 2. Or whether to have sweet potato.

Obviously sweet potato is free on F&H but I weighed it and it's 400g. It's quite large. On pp that would be 10pp and that's before tuna etc. the trouble is, if it's in front of me I'd eat it. Maybe I should half it before I cook it?

Is that right or am I doing it wrong?

If it's right I may never eat one again lol. It is just from the market, wasn't the biggest one either. Just a bit larger than normal.

Mmmmmmm! Your food looks soooooo tasty! I'd never think to have beans with my crumpet, nice idea! Your lunch looks mega yum too, so colourful! X

Unfortunately Sweet Potato/Normal Potato works out pretty much the same so yes you are doing it right. Makes u realise how many PP you could technically be eating on F&H without even realising! X

It gets you thinking...Sweet potato or a Huge Bar of Chocolate lol!! It is crazy how 110g of dry WholeWheat pasta (which is quite a lot as I normally would use 60g for lunch) is the same as the potato. But I guess the potato is completely natural and the body can process it better. I'm not gonna worry, baby needs good nutrition :) I think tomorrow's lunch will be sweet potato, tuna, cucumber, chopped pepper. I will make a quick dressing with my oil allowance.

I will just have no potato and more free veg in the evening with my ??? Not thought that far ahead yet.

I think that's the problem with WW, if you can grab something unhealthy for the same pp as something healthy it's up to you what you choose , I just mentioned on another diary about baked beans as it frustrates me how high in pp they are! X

I know.
A large sweet potato (10pp) and a small tin of beans (5pp)
That's half a days points.

Big Mac - 13pp lol

Although I'm sure the latter wouldn't keep u filled up for so long! X

Morning all....Good Old Fashioned porridge for me.
ImageUploadedByMiniMins.com1402382007.848688.jpg
With skimmed milk and honey 1pp

Was quite nice, I do like it sweet, so I chose organic honey was a more natural choice than sugar. Used 30g porridge :)

Please keep me full until at least 11am.....as I'm in a meeting until then.
