Lapband and struggling! help!

Hi all,
I'm sure hoping I can get some advice and help!

I had lapband surgery in 2007, and went down from 23 st to just over 14st. However, with a combination of meds for fibromyalgia (that i need to take with food, otherwise I get severe nausea/tummy upset); and the fact that I ended up choosing foods that I *knew* would go down (ie chocolate, biscuits and ice cream), my weight crept up to 17st3lbs.

Today I'm in tears.

I'm not a huge meat lover...nor can I eat a huge amount of it. My husband can sit down with a roasted chicken leg...I, however, cannot.

I have been trying to eat dinners, but I am struggling a lot of the times...so, I have been eating a couple of spoonfuls of natural peanut butter or cream cheese, double cream and sugarfree gelatin to make a mousse. (I need food that I know I am not going to throw up when taking my meds).

I would say I'm almost a vegetarian, and know that veggie can do Atkins, I have been in ketosis right from day 2. Weight loss has stalled (I started Jan 16th, 2012).

I believe I am keeping to under 20gr of carbs a day. Been majorly constipated for days (but that got solved earlier today with a combo of psyllium, senokot and suppositories...nice!).

I don't feel like eating, or even looking at food. I have some smoked mackeral in the fridge needing some attention...just tried eating a piece of fried haloumi with a bit of wilted spinach, and threw that back up just now (lap band).

I'm at my wit's end. I have lost 10lbs, yes, but am struggling...(and in a lot of pain from the fibro).

Not a good/happy day.

Any words of wisdom/advice would be so appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Alikat

Hello Alli... Welcome to the forum ... Can you purée your meals and eat that way? It sounds really important to have the meds with food and that might work ? Good luck! X

Poor You

Hi Ali, sorry to hear you are having such a hard time.
Have you tried making soups? I bought a vitamix blender a couple of months ago, and it makes the most amazing soup really quickly. You can even put all the ingredients in, rather than pre cooking them, and leave it on for 7 minutes, and it makes a boiling hot soup, with the most velvety texture, unlike any soup you would have made at home before. My favourite was broccoli and stilton, which is allowed on atkins. You can also make ice cream in it, by using cream, ice cubes and either peanut butter or vanilla essence. If you use it to whip your eggs with cream and cheese to prepare an omelette that you then fry in a pan, it makes it really light and fluffy, maybe that would go down easier? The downside is that is is expensive, about £365.
I dont really know what other advice to give you, Im sorry.
Fibromyalgia is a hideous thing to have to put up with aswell as the lapband, just try to take each day as it comes, and keep your chin up. Love to you.

Water, I forgot to mention water, are you drinking plenty?

Wow Alikat10, wish I could help but you seem to be getting excellent advice here on the thread. My best wishes to you!

Although the advice given above appears to be sensible and sound, please don't do anything drastic without consulting your...well, your consultant! Having had the surgery you need medical support and advice and whilst we can give suggestions, none of us (as far as I'm aware!) is a bariatric or fibromyalgia specialist. If you are throwing up and generally finding it hard to eat well on your meds, you need to see a specialist. I can't stress this enough.

Yes... Boggins is exactly right ! You should go back to your consultant x

Sounds dreadful - wish you well and hope you can out how to i prove!
