    ScalesAholic Anonymous: No-weigh-vember Challenge

Is there anyone else out there who's scales have taken over their life?
Do you get up in the morning a race to the bathroom to see if you've lost weight since yesterday? I know I do.
I have been dieting for the past year and even after all this time, knowing the diet works and the weight is dropping I cannot help myself from just checking! It's a silly obssession, an addiction that moves me away from the real goal - to be healthy, to lose the excess fat and to get off the chair and move more.

So my challenge is to put the scales away and just concentrate on the diet, on getting healthy and doing what I already know works. The scales will be coming back out on the 14th December.
One month without scales. Is anyone else out there ready to fight their addiction with me? It doesn't have to be for the whole month, sometimes just ignoring the beguiling little numerical soothsayers for a single day can be a challenge enough (that's speaking from personal experience )

It's going to be tough, but we're strong enough to diet and resist those naughty foods so we can resist the siren call of the scales.

-Thanks to canarybird for prompting me to make this a challenge.
Never again will I change myself to please someone else.

Another day and temptation resisted. The scales are still out of sight but sadly not out of mind.
This is the first time in a year I can honestly say I don't know how much I weigh!

Hi Jandarka, I found your post! Have been travelling for a day or so, but im finally home.

So now we have to beat our addiction of the scales. Well, im off to a good start because the batteries are dead in mine! So now I have to resist the temptation to buy new batteries.

    So far so good..........

Today resisting temptation has been easy - yesterday became a cupcake day thanks to my little girl's insistence (it didn't take much persausion) and it's impossible not to eat the leftover mix! Mmm, so naughty, slapped wrist very deserved.

I never remember to buy batteries - good anti-weigh tactic to remember :-)

I generally buy them and then promptly lose them.

No weigh today for me, we ate out with friends last night, cant say I was good, cant say I was bad, just happy there are no batteries for the scales

Ooh, I like this idea. Think I will join in, as lately my scales are only frustrating me. My weight has been the same for weeks, not going up or down, and I think I'm focusing on the number too much instead of my original goal to be healthy. The stress doesn't lead to good things for me.

It'll be harder for me to avoid temptation, as my scales are mechanical and require no batteries, but I'll give it a shot! I think I'll put mine away until the 14th as well, and cross my fingers that I'm pleasantly surprised when I bring them back out.

Welcome to the club! And I love your name, Grumpy Space Princess sounds like a wonderful title to a sci-fi rom-com :-) (sorry I have moments of nerdness).
Hide those scales now and think healthy thoughts.
Fingers crossed for success for all of us.

Hehe, thanks! My username is a play on Lumpy Space Princess, who is a character in Adventure Time and is the weightlifting purple blob in my avatar.

Scales are now hidden, and I didn't step on them as I was putting them away this morning, even though I really wanted to!

I had another naughty day yesterday, it's easy falling off the wagon but not so easy getting back on, so temptation to weigh myself was minimal.
To compensate, I have just got back from a 4 mile run. Now I have to resist over doing it just because I've exercised...

Did mention not over doing it? Oh not food, exercise - yesterday I went a bit silly and did a martial arts class after the run. Think I've hurt my ankle now, but I don't care cos I am wearing a pair jeans I last had on during my honeymoon :-) (that was 5yrs and 2 children ago)

Eep, hope your ankle is feeling better by now! But well done on getting into your old jeans.

I know I am going to be most tempted on Thursday, as that's my regular weigh-in day. Nearly caved yesterday, since I started thinking, "Oh, just go on and make sure you're still on track!" But I managed to resist in the end.

Today I discovered that temptation is easy to stop if you have your clothes laid out ready to put on the moment you get up - it being colder now helps too, who wants to strip off in a freezing bathroom? Bbrrrr

    I caved and weighed myself.

    Still the same.

Have now hidden the scales more effectively! They are up high, where I'll need either the ladder or the husband to retrieve them.

I've been very close to it myself, hence all the strategies to avoid the dreaded scales! Keep on trying, it's a very hard habit to break.
