How should I start off running?

I'm going to running next month is there any advice please ?

Have you ever run before? What are your goals? Its hard to give advice without knowing these things.
But as a starter, if you are completely new at it expect to take time to get comfortable and take it slow so you don't get injured or burn out.

Never ran before. My aim is to tone up my body areas and lose a few pounds too ?

Start off easy when you start running as too much too quick can cause some initial damage. As a first phase undertake an alternating run/brisk walk and then escalate it from there.

Then I agree with S_J_B, something like Couch to 5k would be good. Google beginner running plan and find something that suits you.
I started running last year with an 8wk to 5k plan and when that was done slowly started to increase the distance and time. Just remember to go slow and be patient, you will get there.

Cuch to 5K would be a good way to break into it. Remember though it takes patience and wont be an instant "I can run for 5k"..you need to build up to it...and don't worry if you can't do the first days exercises on your first day.

Thank you all I have downloaded the 5k couch now. How many times a week should I start off with please and how long for ?

3 times a week is a good start, it gives you recovery days between each run - recovery time should never be underestimated when you run, its good exercise because its hard on the body!

Haha I was planning on doing it once a week lol

but it ok thanks guys for your help I'm very grateful xx

I finally started the c25k and I lovvveed it so much. I'm going to keep at it now whoop

This is actually something I've been wondering too so this thread was very useful for me :)

I will probably wait until I'm at a lighter weight though as I dont want to risk damaging anything.

Glad to hear you are enjoying couch to 5k so far, what day are you on?

Day 1 I was out at 9am I going again in the morning. You do start off with walking / jogging it's so easy and steady to do at any weight.

Make sure you've got a good pair of running shoes. Also recommend gel heel inserts to go inside them.

Running is high impact on the ankles and knees. The gel heels cushion the impact on these areas.

Don't overdo it if you've not run before. Start off gradually and build it up a bit at a time.

I have downloaded the App couch to 10k. There is also a 5k one. Its amazing!!! It starts off with mixture of walking and jogging and builds you up slowly. I thought I would struggle but it's going well :)

I would definatly recomend. It also shouts out every time you need to walk/run so you do not need to look at your phone, just have it on loud in your pocket or headphones :)

Good luck :) xx

Running is always good choice to be fit and healthy. But you should take some precautions while you start your running.
I would suggest you start with small distance and improve it day by day.
