Drinking

Hi everyone,

I see that you are all still doing great! I need advice....I am going out at the weekend with friends i only see every few months. Do you think it would be ok to have a few drinks if i stuck to shorts and diet coke. I know that you can drink Vodka on the Atkien diet...no Carbs!

I have said i'm driving but get so much stick as we never see each other....that i thinking i my cave in.

Help please.xxxx

Hi Lavender Girl,

Drinking and doing a vlcd is a big NO, NO. Sorry

Quote:
Post-exercise ketosis, ketone bodies

DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL IF YOU ARE KETOTIC!
Alcohol is a powerful inhibitor of gluconeogenesis. In fact, it forces part of the gluconeogenic metabolic process into reverse. This means that if all the glucose in the blood is being derived from gluconeogenesis then the consumption of alcohol will inevitably cause the blood glucose level to fall. Worse still, the alcohol also stops ketone body production, thus leaving the brain entirely without fuel.
A person who is ketotic is 100% reliant on gluconeogenesis to maintain adequate levels of glucose in the blood. If, under these circumstances alcohol is taken, the person will become disorientated and might lose consciousness, not just from the alcohol, but from low blood sugar. Needless to say, this could be very dangerous, and even fatal.
Alcohol does not have these effects if the glycogen stores in the liver are normal. Under these circumstances the blood glucose level in the blood is maintained by the breakdown of liver glycogen, a process that is not influenced by alcohol. If a person becomes confused under these circumstances it is due simply to the pharmacological effects of the alcohol

dear mini, I'm so glad I read this blog, I have been pressured by friends to just have 1 drink, but I refused, so glad I did, I didn't realise how dangerous alcohol could be when in ketosis. Thankyou!! Me and soda water are becoming best friends..lol

does quantity of water really matter?

Hi,
I think I drank less water last week than usual. My weight los was also less last week than it had previously been. I understand that we should not drink less than 2L per day on Lipotrim, but the range could be between 2 to 4 or even 5L.
My question is, is weight loss slowed down if you tend to drink just 2L per day?, or is wt. loss directly proprtional to amount of water drunk? Should I be aiming for 3L and above to increase my weight loss?
Thanks!

I don't know the official answer but personally I'd want to wait just a little longer before consuming alcohol, just for my own peace of mind.

I'm sure someone will be along soon who can give you a better answer though.

its just i am going on a stag weekend on 1st August!!!
i started the diet on 8th July and hoped to go until 25th then go onto refeeding in preparation of going away.
if this isnt enough time then i will probably go until 22nd as it will compete 2 weeks on and then refeed until 1st.
i then plan to go back on when i get back.
i know i shouldnt really go on and off it, but either i could have waited to start in august or start straight away and i thought the sooner i start the better!!
