    Hi everyone!

    I'm here because I need help.

    I've always struggled with my weight and I've never been a "healthy" size. For the last 10 years I've bounced between 18-23stone - I believe I'm currently resting at around 21st 7ltbs.

    This January I turned 30 and my boyfriend proposed - we have set the date for March 2016. My fiancé is very supportive and loves my curves but we would like to start a family and as I've had health problems in the past I really want to be at a healthy weight before we start trying for a family.

    So... I'm now faced with the mammoth task of shifting the excess bulk I've been carrying for so long.

    I've try quick fix diet plans in the past and I have lost weight, but I've always put it back on. I lost 6 stone with lighter life but it was a struggle and at times I felt socially isolated - we normally meet up for drinks or meals with friends and I found myself turning down invitations to avoid being around people that were eating.

    So this time I want to try the slow and steady approach. I'm setting myself the target of losing 1.5 lbs a week. I'm going to cut out booze, follow a healthy eating plan and get plenty of exercise (mostly dog walking - I dislike the gym environment).

    It would be really great to have the support of people in similar situations because I'm on a long long road and I believe at some point I will need people to remind me why I don't want to eat the massive piece of cake

    I think that we are in the same boat. I have a lot of weight to lose too. I am currently doi g tje Exante diet but since friday I have fallen off the wagon. I think my main problem is not being able to go out with family and friends so I am thinking of starting a calorie controlled diet. I don't mind going slow and steedy as I just dont want to stay the same for another 10 years! Plus at 28, I just want to unleash the daring woman inside me!! I bought a few home work out videos so I think that would be a good place to start because I also don't like the gym environment. Good luck!

    Congratulations on your engagement - woop woop! You're going to be such a beautiful bride, I just know it...

    Sounds like a really sensible approach, break it down into small chunks, set achievable goals and don't try to change the world in a day. Gradual adjustments such as more exercise and better food choices will be far more sustainable in the long run. Your chap sounds like a keeper and although he is happy with you how you are do not let that derail you from the things you want to do. Get him on board early so that he can encourage you and make sure you let him know how he can help you. When I gave up the booze it took a long time for my partner to adjust because we are quite social creatures, and I just had to tough it out there for a while. Now I have proved, more so to everyone else than myself, that I can sit in the pub with a diet coke and still enjoy myself. (And collect brownie points along the way for always being the driver )

    Hi Ames22, congrats on your engagement, and good luck with your weight loss! I've been with my other half for six years, so I suppose it's always at the back of my mind for our future, and kids and marriage and what not. I'd love to lose the weight so it doesn't hold me back.
    In regards to exercise etc., have you considered swimming? I know being in barely there clothing is the last thing larger ladies tend to want to do, but once you're in the pool, it doesn't matter. I only mention because I started recently and it was great. No over heating, own pace, and its gentle on the joints! (I have a bad knee) x good luck with everything xx

    Good luck, hon. Nice and steady is by far the best approach to take - it's healthier, more sustainable, and you're less likely to end of with huge folds of loose skin than if you lose it quickly. I was 21.5 stone too when I started out, so I know how daunting it feels, but just take it a step at a time - each half stone, new stone bracket, new BMI category, different dress size; there's lots of ways to break it down into more manageable chunks. You can do it! xx

    Thank you so much for all your messages, I've been having mega manic days at work and because we are up against a deadline and all a bit stressed so the boss has brought in loads of cake! I think it might have been more challenging for me if I'd had a moment to leave my desk. My office is full of foodies and it seems like every other day someone is baking sweet treats :S

    Fiona, I love to swim but it's finding the time and a nice pool that I find most challenging. I'm going to start a dance class with my friend, tribal belly dance I figure I might as well put the belly to good use. I have 2 dogs, a lab and a springer who would be more than happy to walk 24/7 so I think that's where I will get the most exercise

    maccamarsh, the other half is on board with the stopping drinking ( although I always have to drive because he can't!) we are kinda like little and large, he is 6'4" and skinny and I'm 5'4" and fat lol, so I want to lose it and he wants to bulk up! I'm the cook in the family so I'm hoping that if I make really healthy meals and control my portions I can lose weight and the OH can eat larger portions and gain muscle.

    Nicynoo, i have 2 boxes of exante sat in my kitchen... I got them before Xmas but I just can't stick it. I've done the lighter life diet before for over 6months and unfortunately put the weight back on. I have seen the results from that type of diet and they are fantastic, my advice would be put the past behind you, pick a new day and start again. I have a mood wall at home, it's covered in pictures and some of my favourite poems, just little things in inspire me, I find that having it around helps me. Maybe we could be diet buddies and keep each other motivated?

    Tracey, you are a real inspiration- proof that this can be done. I try not to think about the numbers to much because the amount of weight is so intimidating. But you are right, I'm going to focus of a little bit at a time and not the whole amount, I will get there!

    Purple, a diary is a great idea, it will be nice to keep a record I can look back on and see how far I've come. I will get to work on one.

    I went shopping today, have filled the fridge with fruit, veg and lean meats, got a meal with the future father-in-law Saturday night (late engagement celebration) then I've no more excuses. It's full steam ahead on the weight loss train

    Hi hun, I once weighed 22st and wore a size 28.i now weigh 14st and wear a size 16-18.i still have atleast 4 st to lose but like you im taking it steady 1-2lbs a week.Good luck with your journey and congratulations on your engagement x

    Honeybee, that's amazing! Well done you. I have some dresses that are size 18-20 from when I was smaller and I'm really looking forward to reachIng the point when they fit again, although I won't be at my goal weight it's a half way point and something to look forward to

    Awesome plan lady, I think breaking down what I need to do into little goals is what's gonna get me thought it. I've not joined a club, it's more a packed between my maid of honour and me, we are going to face the scales every week together. My first goal is to lose 1 stone....
