Has anyone seen the new ad?

Play weightwatchers today?

Do they think that this weight loss journey is just a game to all of us? A game is something you do for fun, sorry but weight loss is not fun, it is a serious matter that seems to take over everything that you do. Well I think its a stupid ad, what do you think?

I think youre taking it the wrong way, its a light hearted upbeat advert. I think theyre just trying to say that dieting can still mean you can have fun, have a social life and enjoy food.

Too many people think diets mean steamed fish, salad and veg I think theyre just trying to say that its nothing like that. You can have a drink, have a bit of choc etc and still be on plan.

But as an ad its worked, you remember it and now youre getting people talking about it - mission accomplished WW ;)

I quite liked it, I thought it was a quirky way of selling a diet plan. Put a different spin on things - I didn't like their previous ad, thought it was really naff but I thought this was fun.

I think it's time SW did something similar!!

Yeah but I remember it for the wrong reasons, does not make me want to try it? quite the opposite. Wonder if I am in the minority?

Have to confess I quite like it!!

You're not. I don't hate it or anything, but I do think it's odd - the idea of it being a "game" just doesn't sit right with me.

To be honest I quite liked the advert but when I realised what is was for I just felt like it was a bit OTT. I have nothing against WW, I've done it myself and it did work well.

OH asked me when it was on why he's never seen anything like that for SW and I just said I thought it was because SW didn't need fancy gimmicks to get people to join their groups - the diet speaks for itself. I know SW do advertise, i.e., that booklet that came free with the paper recently - but it seems like they advertise the food and weight losses (which lets face it is what people are really interested in) rather than employing some celebrity to try and gain popularity.

I could be wrong though, who knows next week SW might be releasing an even more ridiculous ad to compete haha!

Me too I only noticed it this week :)... very upbeat as Starlight said, I smiled when I watched it found it very positive for people who are currently on the program, or maybe wanting to 'try' the plan.

And for all the people in the advert it's a 'opportunity'to feel proud of their achievements ..:bliss:
These worse adverts i could moan about:p but this isnt one on my list LOL

Go WW.. I may rejoin again:eek: tomorrow.. ;)

I havent seen the TV advert, but I caught the radio version a couple of times lately. I understand what they are trying to do, make their diet seem like "fun" and not hard work - but I completely understand where the OP is coming from, because I was left scratching my head and wondering what the marketing and advertising execs had been on when they came up with that particular concept. Its a bit of a mixed message. I dont think they set out to suggest that needing to lose weight is just a game, but that is how it comes across. I cant decide whether its badly judged or not though - I guess only membership figures will answer that. It didnt inspire me to switch over though.

To be fair though youre not their target audience, youre not going to try it regardless of how good an ad they produce or what promises they were to make. But we're talking about it now, and I bet people who havent seen it either google it or watch out for it now :)

Thats not necessarily true is it? SW are their major rivals - if members on SW are struggling and thinking they might need to change the plan they do, they would LOVE that - How many posts do we get on here where people are trying to decide between the two? Surely their target audience is anyone with weight to lose and in the mindset to do it?

Got to confess, I've seen one of the ads but only watched it with half an eye - I just presumed they had a game on their website, rather than them meaning that WW itself was a game.

Google turned up an amusingly snide article from the Guardian about it :D Weight Watchers' new game

I was referring though to the op who is a SW follower and perfectly happy with her choice of diet. Like yourself would you seriously change from SW to WW just because they had a fab ad. When I was doing WW they could have offered me free membership plus £30 a week if I'd swap to SW and there's no way I would have. Thatscwho I was referring to, not people who are swithering or struggling :)

Thanks for the link , interesting , time will tell, but think they could have come up with something that sounded better, and just imagine how much the company who came up with that idea got paid?

I have to be honest, it's grown on me. It hasn't tempted me to switch over but I do think if I was on WW it would have made me feel proud and given me a really big boost :) Everyone looks great, it's nice to know it was made up of target members (and Alesha Dixon).

My only issue is that the tagline- "Play the Weight Watchers game" initially sounded like really bad English and it makes me irksome. I'm a bit OCD about that; I've settled with it now though.

It's a bit odd that Alesha's in the ad though, promoting WW - I mean, when was she overweight?!

I really like the ad. It's different. I've never fancied weight watchers, and I don't think an advert is going to persuade me that a points based system is for me - but if it gets a few new people to consider losing weight where they may not have before, then I'm all for it.

I quite like all the singing, but i quite like scary spice and the Jenny Craig diet advert. But i really HATE the go compaire man and id never go compaire with them lol
