Some background; did S/W a few years ago and (stupidly) after losing 4+ stone decided that it had "stopped working". Sigh! Yep, fast forward 3 years, 2 stone back on and started again at 15 stone 8. It's coming off, and I'm dead chuffed - currently 13st 13.5.
The thing is, people are telling me that I have "lost enough". Now, I've always been curvy (like, genuinely curvy, not just when I was very overweight!) and last time I was on S/W, the lowest weight I got to was 13st 3...at that point, my blood sugar/pressure fell very low to the point where I was quite ill and I was advised by my GP to just maintain my weight and not try to lose any more, despite my BMI still being borderline obese. He just told me bluntly that it is an outdated tool and doesn't suit everyone.
At that weight, I was a size 12 and at the moment, my size 14's are getting a little slack. I do have a very hefty chest which seriously goes NOWHERE no matter what the weight loss - the back size goes down, the cup size goes up (currently 32L) and I think my thighs will always be on the meaty size! ;-)
The thing is, I see women posting here, and commenting at group etc... I don't really want to get into this at that forum hence my asking here. But I see women who (I think) weigh much less than me but are the same size?? And women who are my weight who are size 18?? People think I'm joking when I tell them I'm alomost 14 stone (weigh-in tomorrow so hoping for a little more off!)
I'm 5ft 6 and well, just after pointers/comments really. I feel my group leader will be reluctant to set my target weight at 12st 9 (which is kind of what I have in my head - but still clearly "overweight") and when I tell people I'm after 1/2 stone off more than last time I lost the weight, they look at my like I'm bonkers?!?!
Hoping this prompts a bit of a discussion, I guess - not sure what anyone could do to "help".

It's a real personal choice your leader will set your target at whatever weight you chose wether that's a healthy bmi or not so long as you are not underweight.
I watched a documentary and they were saying tat actually bmi was made up by the insurance people to help them set premiums. They initially set it that at 27 you became overweight then someone worked out if they cut it to 25 they could charge more people more.
I would go by you and how you feel when I did sw last I got to a size 12 fast forward 12 years and there is no way I am going to look good at a size 12 bottom. At the moment I am size 12 top size 15 bottom so have chosen to lose till I can comfortably get into a size 14 and then I will be happy. Remember it's your body no one else's. Good luck
This, times a million! I know it is a cliché, but everyone IS different. Your consultant will set your target at whatever you say. Only you know what weight feels and looks right for you. Don't worry about what anyone else says (especially if your doctor is happy). I am your height and although my weight is lower my size is higher - that's because I'm not you! And neither is anybody else.

Hi it's strange as I was just talking about this the other day as I am now an 18 ish clothes size from 22/24 and weighed in at 17.11 today but my mum and fella the other day wen we were discussing weight and how much lost ect. Couldn't believe I had been over 20 stone and still 18 ( then) they both put me at least 2 stone lighter so I think people must just carry weight differently or ppl just don't see just how big some people esp ppl close to them actually are x
thanks peeps! My consultant does refer to BMI quite regularly which is what's possibly making me a little apprehensive about my target weight. But you're right, one of the great things about S/W is that it won't dictate that I should be 9 stone! (can only see that happening if my legs fall off, tbh!) I'm definitely sticking with it this time - one of the reasons for my wanting to set a goal weight this time around is so that I stay on the wagon. I don't want to have to lose THIS 2 stone ever again!! X
These women all weigh the same but look different.
Don't worry about what others will think of your weight loss. If YOU are comfortable then smile :) your consultant shouldn't have an issue with your target x

I am 5ft 9.5" and even at 12 stone 5lb, I wear a 14/16 bottom and 12/14 top. People think I look OK/'normal' but I don't feel it and I know I feel better at least a stone less than this. So I am doing what is right for me...losing it!!
I'm only 4ft 10ins, so according to BMI charts the lowest I can go down to is 6st 11lb!! That's unrealistic for me, so I've set my target at a weight I know I feel and look good at. It's still 'technically' overweight, but I figure as long as I'm healthy and happy with myself, I'm not going to worry :)
Don't listen to BMI, go by when you feel comfortable at that weight :) I have a similar problem to you with being naturally curvy (my chest is 32GG), and I know I'm never going to be stick thin. Go by what makes you feel best and also at what weight you are healthy and having no problems. Congrats on your loss so far :)
i was actually shocked to read that bmi is an ancient scientific calcilation that most doctors now hate to use cause its not realistic. someone who is a competitive athlete and pur muscle could weigh on the clasified side of obese but in fact in the bigger picture is not.
body confidence is personal and as long as your happy and confident then thats all that matters.

I'm incredibly unlikely to ever wear a t-shirt with my weight written across it in big red letters so it's my business! :-)Lost 1.5lbs at weigh-in yesterday but am off to South of France next week for a fortnight when the call of the fromage will be hard to resist!! ;-)
As a naturally curvy girl even slimmer I don't think I will ever be a healthy bmi but I know plenty who are and are far less healthy than I am. And if your big busted think how much weight you're carrying there. Mine weighs around two stone (don't ask) and I def don't want to lose all of it!
Stick where you are happy and feel healthy, you don't have to stay there for ever. You can pick a different weight/size whenever you fancy.
I am weighing in at 13st10lb at the minute and ever since leaving school I have been a 12/14 up top and between 14 and 16 on bottom. No matter how much I lose my bottom half never changes size for some reason even if I have lost loads of weight. I would love to see the day I get into a 12 jeans, that would really be a proud day for me. My BMI is 31 but even when I was 11st before my daughter it was 26, it all confuses me. You do what you what to do and what you feel comfortable with, the consultant is there to guide you but only you inside know what you want.
