Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum and new to SW.
I really want to give SW a try, my weight has just built up over the past few years and I need to make a change for my health and happiness.

I can't afford the classes as I'm on a student budget but from what I can see the flexibility and option of the plan really do work so I want to try to give it a go from home (is this do-able??)

I'm looking at buying the welcome pack off Ebay to give me an idea of what to do.

Does anyone have any tips of getting started?

Welcome! :) My tip would be to go to one class to get the official books and have the plan explained to you by a consultant. You could stock up on a few cookbooks at the same time if you were so inclined! It will probably work out cheaper than ebay and you get the benefit of someone talking you through it. The plan can feel confusing at first, although once you've got your head around it it really is very easy! Lots of luck.

I would say find a voucher an join then £4.95 a week you get support an to learn what's new but I think it makes you more determined rather than doin it alone the other thing is I have done s/w for so many years in an out an something always changes foods that where free may now have syn values as I find out when I re join you also get to use the website with the syn calculator an recipes

have you tried your doctors to see if they do any s/w vouchers if your bmi is high? I know they used to send you weight watchers but think there is something for s/w to these days?

Yep def join just to get the newest books and new member talk, it's really helpful. Also do what shell said and ask your gp.

There are loads of people on here doing it from home, so you aren't alone ,my lovely.

Welcome and good luck! Xxxx

It's totally up to you...i used to go to group but have now decided to do it from home alone...i am not a group person and being weighed in front of other people didn't make me stick to food optimising any more or less!
However, i have to say that to really understand slimming world you need to join, get the literature and have someone explain the slimming world ways to you in plain english.
Good luck with your weight loss journey...remember there is always someone here on minimins who will be more than happy to help if they can!

I was looking for books on ebay too, they are selling them at high price! £30 onwards, when the 1st meeting is £9.95 or find a voucher and only pay £4.50 - £4.95 and get the talk too, and they will answer any questions you have.
saving you well over £20 if you bought them off ebay :D
