Convince me I will feel better for losing weight - please!

just can't seem to get going, losing the same few lbs again and again and putting them back on again. Hoping someone on here can give me some motivation or maybe a kick up the butt. Hoping that will inspire me to get properly back on track. I am 5ft 10, 13 stone 11lbs and my waist is 41.5 inches (the last one is a shocker as I wear 36-inch waist jeans).
Will I feel a real difference if I shed a stone or two?

*kick in the ass as requested* Yes you will feel a huge difference losing that much weight. Question though, are you only focusing on the scale or are you keeping track of your inches at the same time? If you are gaining muscle then your weight will go up however your inches over your body should go down. If this is happening I would not worry about it to much. However if you are gaining weight and the inches are going up as well then that is a cause for attention.

gosh Faxman that is an interesting question yet a difficult one to answer without appearing to be rude or to offend you in anyway. I just didn't want to read this thread and not give my honest opinion. Firstly, I am by no means a perfect dieter or maintainer. I lose and gain weight and there has been a pattern to this and it is something I will always to to break the cycle of. So two reason for me to lose weight a) my terrbile relationship with food as I am an overeater and binge eater b) I am overweight for my height and frame c) I can feel the extra bits of fat d) as a result of all of this I feel bloated and unhealthy e) I have poor self esteem due to everything I listed previously.

In other words I don't need anyone to convince me I will feel better if I lose weight. Only I know that. So my answer to your question in your title " Convince me I will feel better for losing weight...." only you can answer. Do you really want to lose weight OR is it motivation you are seeking? Once you have answered that to yourself honestly then, you can find tonnes of motivation on here with all the diaries of those who are successful on the chosen plans or learn NOT how to do a plan when you look at my diary as I start ok then fail, and get into an awful cycle but I am trying to succeed this time. It's hard even with all the fantastic motivation on here so ultimately in my opinion we have to want to lose the weight before any of can stick to any diet plan or even make the right food choices so as not to gain any more weight.
I hope that helps?

Thanks Kira and Shimmies
Kira, I think you have hit the nail on the head, my motivation is the issue at times. I know deep down that I am carrying too much weight but sometimes I don't want to lose the weight ENOUGH to make the right choices. This is what I need to address!

Shimmies, I haven't always tracked inches in the past but as I am increasing my exercise a lot I will be measuring my waist every few weeks as this is (like most blokes) where I carry the majority of my extra weight. I got my bodyfat done at the gym the other day as well and am going to check this (probably every few months so I hopefully notice a difference) regularly.

Thanks to you both again for considered and well thought replies.

You're welcome hon. The fact that you asked the question may be you're answer too? Worth reading back on it and perhaps that will help. Also look at some photos of yourself old ones and recent ones and some inbetween. I did that last night and looked at photos ranging from the last 10 years! Oh! My what I shock I got even from the most recent ones as 2 years! I was FAT I am still FAT for my height and frame and I really ought to print them off and stick them around the kitchen! Big prints! Seriously, if you don't have recent ones take some now and look at them carefully. It could be in your head you think you are slimmer or weigh less than you actually are and look. I really was shocked looking at even recent photos even losing the intial weight over Dec to Jan that I was lookin at anothe person.

Wish you well and if you choose a diet plan or other method of maintaining or losing keep posting!

Your welcome. Better to ask questions no matter how newb or stupid you might think they are because most likely you are not the only one with the problem or are thinking about it.

I don't actually know how much a stone is but I know even when I've not lost enough to notice a difference physically, I always feel better about myself and happier when I know I'm working on getting my weight under control. But I've been heavy my entire life so this has been a really long losing battle. Another thing to think about is I know when I'm not focused on losing then sometimes I'm gaining. And I really wish I'd paid more attention and been going down on the scale instead of what I'd gained because I just didn't want to deal with the struggle anymore. Just some things to think about.

Anyway I too am trying to find the motivation to get back on track and tackle this so I guess I was saying this as much to myself as to help you out, lol.
