Review: Beef Dhansak (recipe currently featured on website)

    Very yummy!

I did mine in a pressure cooker and altered the recipe slightly.

Browned the beef off in the pressure cooker.

I sauteed ginger, garlic, turmeric, cumin seeds, madras curry powder, 2 halved thin green chillies, 10-15 peppercorns, 3 crushed cardamom pods in Frylight for about a minute then added it to the beef along with a pint of beef stock made with the Knorr stock pots (1 syn) and did it in the pressure cooker for about 8 mins.

Then I added the veg in the recipe (swede, carrot, onion, lentils [although I only used about 150-200g and this was plenty], potato, tin of tomatoes) and cooked for a further 7-8 mins in pressure cooker.

Finished off with a big handful of freshly chopped coriander and juice of a lemon and sprinkle of salt.

It was really good! The lentils really made it nice and thick. I'm going to try it again next time with either lamb or chicken. I overcooked the meat so it was a bit tough (I'm still getting used to my pressure cooker) but it does veg to perfection!

Sounds lovely Just one thing - the Beef stock pot is 1 syn not 0.5 according to the website (and for some reason the chicken and vegetable ones are 1.5).

Oooh thank you! I must've misread it when I looked it up yesterday!

Meant to say too that next time I would probably add some mushrooms and chunky peppers to it as well. The pic on the website looks like it has red peppers though the recipe didn't call for them.

I didn't bother blending the lentils and veg either as I prefer them chunky and like how they bulk it out.

Hi Staceyuk - dfo you think this recipe would work in the slow-cooker? And could I use the bag of soup mix I have in the cupboard inplace of lentils (barley, lentils & split peas) - been trying to get rid of the blasted things for yonks!
