Are cooked packaged (ie. processed) meats FREE?

Hi!

I'm new and new to slimming world, but seem to have been getting it so far!

However, there seem to be conflicting views -
the syn checker on the site says that the processed sandwich meat ive entered so far has a syn value - albeit low
but then again, all meat with the fat removed should be free right?

confused! used pastrami in a syn free quiche today and now questioning it!

help!

I can't say for sure, but as far as I know.. meat that is sliced whole meat with no fat is free. So, your wafer thin hams and your chicken etc.

Things like pastrami, salami etc have a syn value because they have a high fat content. Whenever you're in doubt next time, just type in to Google i.e 'Pastrami syns' and it usually throws out the right answer!

great, will try that now! thanks!

Just to clarify, not all wafer thin hams etc are free as they're processed meats, and some contain alot of sugar. It's best to double check before you buy

The whole meat thing confuses me . I use lighter choice ham but as i only use one slice in my salad I don't worry about any syn value, I don't think it has any syn value anyway.

Okay, so if that one slice did have a syn value (of 1 syn for example) and as you only have one slice you don't worry about it, then you have a dollop of ketchup but as it's only one syn, you don't worry about it, then you have a splash of milk in a drink, but it's only one syn so you don't worry about it, then a yoghurt, but it's only half a syn etc etc etc - you get my drift....... ALL syns are worth worrying about. If something has a syn value, then count it.

As for processed meats - check online. Things like chicken roll, some wafer thin hams, luncheon meat etc etc do indeed have a syn value.

I do get the point in what you say but the 2 types of ham I usually have are syn free so maybe I am a bit lazy in checking. Will make sure I check other brands/types and syn them.
