25 stone to 19 stone in 8 months.

Haha I hate going to the dr!! I refuse unless I'm dropping dead!
All my drs are slim and blame everything on my weight. Thin people don't get ill then ?!?!?

A few weeks ago I went to hospital with a terrible pain in my side and I was seen by a Hungarian woman doctor who was almost as big as me ~ I'd put her at about 20 stone. As if that wasn't surprising enough, the last time I went to my own GP I saw a locum, also a woman, and this time a Russian one, and she was just about exactly the same size and shape as me, so she MUST have been at least 24 stone if not more. I was absolutely gobsmacked. Of course, I didn't say anything, but I really wanted to. The good thing is, if they are also morbidly obese, they are not likely to give us a lecture like those skinny ones do.

We can do this. What you having for tea tonight? Xx

I have used up almost my entire calorie allowance for the day. So, it will be a finger of Fudge (to cheer myself up after my horrible nearly-fainting episode, and a pint of water with a dash of lemon, and an early night!

You need to eat more! Simple as that. Try 2000 cals for a week, you'll still lose! And are you exercising too? Eat back your exercise cals, you'll still benefit from the increase in metabolism that working out gives. Space out your cals over 3 meals and 3 snack. Say 550 per meal then say 120 cal snack. Or less for breakfast and more for dinner and tea. Protein will fill you up longer than carbs will. Coconut water is the water from inside a coconut! But you can buy it canned on amazon or in shops. Amazons is best, sweeter. It fills you up so suppress appetite and is about 60 cals. It's very good for you. I know all this as im now work for my sister who is a nutritionist and today I've been researching the benefits of coconut water and oils and the toxic ness of vegetable oils and margarines!
Do the tdee, you'll be suprised how many cals you can have xxxx

Last year I had a long discussion with the top experts on MFP about my TDEE (which I think was 2,200) and the consensus was that I should be eating 1600 to 1700 to lose weight. I've also this week input my stats into a few different sites' calculators and they all say more or less the same. One today said 1,775.

I do not believe I will lose at 2000+ as I am doing zero exercise at present. (I am so tired all the time that just doing the daily life things inside my house (showering, cooking, washing up) exhausts me.)

I'm eating quite a bit of protein, actually; certainly at every meal. Had 4oz tuna at breakfast, ham and chicken and beef at lunch, cheese and ham for dinner.

Ah, so you DID mean the water out of a coconut! I didn't know you could buy it, but it must taste lovely, like a Bounty Bar!

Wow - you know Zoe? I'm impressed. I truly believe that she has the answer to the obesity crisis and despair when I read about the NHS recommending that people follow a low fat diet. It's just not true. Good fats and protein is the way to go but how do you convince people of this?

I'm with you on the cravings and still suffer terribly now. I've always been a binge eater - and unfortunately being slim hasn't miraculously cured this! I just manage it by exercising will power - god alone knows how .

As for my stats , I wasn't overweight until I had children and then I spent about 7 years weighing over 15 stone. I'm only 5 ft 3 and this was just too much for me - and it had an effect on my health as my knees would ache and I'd have heartburn. I turned 40 and suddenly just thought ' what ARE you doing to yourself? ' and then I got on with it. Through various methods I went from 15 stone 3 in May 2011 to 9 stone by August 2012. And I remain there within about 7 lbs. I now cut back when I get to 9 and a half ish as opposed to ignoring the scales as I used to. I'm still very prone to over eating though ( ate an entire bloody cake plus a whole packet of French fancies last Friday ) but then I just seem to do a few weeks of super healthy eating until I relapse again. I'm sure naturally skinny women do not do this! But hey, we' re all human

It really sounds like your head is in the right place this time. I've got a feeling you'll be successful this time

Hello Jo that is another from Wales on this thread! Maybe you two should buddy up? We can have more than one buddy, after all! Good luck Jo and to everyone with what they are trying to achieve. I will be keeping this thread as a diary for the next 8 months and, hopefully, posting daily with my discoveries!

Thanks for sharing your story "Greta Grip". When you are only about 9 stone you can have the occasional splurge, I can see that your struggle is to make sure it really is only occasional. I applaud you for taking control before things got too bad (I wish I had!)

It's funny how everything is relative: to you being 15 stone was horrendous; to me it's my greatest wish on earth!

Wow - you know Zoe? I'm impressed.

I've never met her ~ she's another who lives in Wales! ~ but we have corresponded for about three years. She quotes me on p245 of The Obesity Epidemic.

Lol I'm in Pembrokeshire but we holiday a lot in north wales as we love it :) recently got back from a log cabin hol in Dolgellau :) fab! Where are you ? X

That's incredible stuff! I remain impressed!

Yes it's all relative of course and it must seem like I can stuff my face and just stay the same. I can't. I'm pretty sure that the fat cells are all still there , empty, but there ... And as soon as I have a food splurge they start to fill up again . Quickly. I'm very capable of putting on half a stone in a week if I put my mind to it.

I must be vigilant for life now. And convince myself that I just really enjoyed my dinner of marinated tofu with brown rice and red peppers

Saturday's meals. My first day on the new diet.

11 aug.jpg10aug.jpg

Sunday and Monday (i.e. yesterday)

So that is my first three days on the diet. There are some things I was just using up and won't be eating again, like the mayo, and the truffles which were a gift, posted by a friend from Holland. I have now bought a multipack of Cadbury Fudge and will be doling out one a day to myself within my calorie limit.

Wow! That's not a lot of calories :( I'd be inclined to increase them - as you may end up struggling with so little.

Really? And there was me beating myself up for going a bit over 1700 today! Of course I'd LOVE to eat more calories, but I really REALLY want to see some weight loss. Dare I increase, just when I've done so well on 1600?

I am considering doing the "alternate day fast" which means 500c one day and anything you like the next. At the moment I am trying to find out which are the best (i.e. tastiest) meal replacement shakes for the fasting day. Anyone know?

And here is today's. I feel really guilty going over 1700. A failure, after just 4 days :-(

But I mustn't, because I was under for 3 days ~ I've earned it!

I think even just by reducing your recommended daily amount by 500-1000 cals a day you'd easily lose weight. Cutting back too much might slow it down. It's a weird one to get your head round sometime, but your body has a miming amount of cals that it needs just to function. It hard for us bigger ladies to realise sometimes that we still need to eat a reasonable amount of the right foods to fuel our bodies to lose the weight xx if you're seriously considering the alternate day diet, slim and save are the yummiest meal replacement I found xx

Added you all on MFP ladies :)

I'd definitely consider going to the doctor and asking for a check up - you may need some medication for BP or vertigo or something. My mum is 58 and and trying to lose weight too (she is disabled as well and only an inch taller) - it is very hard, especially as she can't be/stay as mobile as she'd like/she needs. If you're struggling you need to eat more - but you need to make sure that you have it in you - by visiting the doctor and getting checked over. You need to look after yourself 100%

Whilst there, maybe you could ask for a referal to the dietician, see if you can get extra help. Take advantage of what is there and love yourself!!

Take care love - we're here for you!!

You are definitely NOT a failure for going over 1700 calories!
MFP is telling me I should be having about 1800 and that's before I add exercise (so can eat back my calories if I want) I only weigh a teeny bit less than you and am allowed more calories, I really think you should try and aim for about 1700-1800...just to start off with at least.
If you're starting on low calories if your weight loss stalls you will struggle to drop calories to shift the weight again.
It does sound odd that we actually need to eat MORE to lose weight but it works!

Oh and as for Meal replacements for 500cal days (if you do the up/down days)...try 'slim and save' they have the tastiest stuff ever! Their shakes are lovely and they have the biggest range of flavours.
If I could stick to a VLCD that is the one I would be doing.
