Sorry to resurrect a thread corpse! But just a quick zombie thread comment..
I make a quick mug of miso with 1/2 teaspoon of miso paste (2.5 calories) 1 tsp of fish sauce (2 calories), 2 tsps dark soya sauce (12 calories) and then a few bean spouts and fresh spinach leaves thrown in.
According to the syn 20 rule that squiddie mentions above....that would make it 0.8 of a syn if you consider miso paste, fish paste and soy sauce a syn.
However, I understood that fish, soy and lentil products were free foods? Fish sauce is made of only two ingredients (anchovies and water) miso paste is mostly made of water and yellow soy beans (the fermented soy beans are down the list of ingredients) and of course soy sauce is made of soybean and salt. (All containing very low fat protein, which I would assume was a good thing?!).
Anyway, i'm very confused as to the syn value of my homemade miso soup!
